Don't miss our final Pop-Up Drop-Off event of the year on Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at UofL's Shelby Campus. In addition to the materials normally accepted at our events, we will be offering a special opportunity to recycle household batteries, which are not typically accepted at Pop-Up Drop-Off events.

Whether you're cleaning out a garage, decluttering before the holidays, or holding onto old batteries you've been meaning to recycle, this is a great opportunity to divert even more material from the landfill and ensure items are managed responsibly.

New Sidewalk Project Coming to Stony Brook Drive

Construction is set to begin on October 26 for the Stony Brook Drive Sidewalk Project (KYTC Item No. 5-571), an important pedestrian safety improvement that will add new sidewalk connectivity along a busy corridor.

The project includes construction of a new 5-foot-wide ADA-compliant sidewalk along the west side of Stony Brook Drive between Kirby Lane and Stara Way. Additional work will include drainage improvements and a culvert extension to enhance infrastructure and improve stormwater management in the area.

To safely complete the culvert extension, the southbound lane of Stony Brook Drive between Stara Way and Kirby Lane will be temporarily closed during construction. Northbound traffic will remain open, and a signed detour route will be in place for southbound motorists.

This project will improve pedestrian access, enhance safety, and provide better connectivity for residents traveling along the corridor.

Residents are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the work zone and to follow all posted detour signs during construction.

Another District 11 quality sidewalk project delivered by the Metro DOT team and All-Terrain!

A new 650-foot section of sidewalk has been completed along Taylorsville Road (KY 155) between Narwood Drive and Cherian Drive, improving connectivity and pedestrian safety along this major arterial route. The continuation of this sidewalk would extend into the City of Jeffersontown.

Special thanks to Steve Kurowsky, Engineer Supervisor and Project Manager, for his outstanding work in bringing this important connectivity project to completion.

Traffic Safety Update for District 11

From April through September 2026, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office (JCSO) conducted 173 traffic enforcement stops throughout District 11, resulting in 120 citations and 53 courtesy notices at 42 different locations.

The most common violations involved speeding, with enforcement focused on key corridors including Hurstbourne Lane, Eastwood Fisherville Road, and South English Station Road.

Importantly, these enforcement efforts by JCSO are in addition to the ongoing traffic enforcement conducted by Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and the Jeffersontown Police Department (JPD). Together, these agencies are working to improve roadway safety and encourage responsible driving throughout District 11.

Thank you to our law enforcement partners for helping keep our community safe.

This morning, Louisville Metro Council's Minority Caucus provided an update on our Safer Louisville initiative. Since launching the plan, we've made progress on public safety efforts including increased traffic enforcement, solar-powered streetlight installations, human trafficking enforcement, ATV crackdowns, retail theft prevention, removal of illegal donation bins, and support for new first responder training facilities. There is still more work to do, but we remain committed to making Louisville a safer place to live, work, and raise a family.
