For the second year in a row, Louisville Metro government employees gathered for a wellness/domestic violence awareness month event co-hosted by Concentra Health and the Mayor’s Office for Women. We also highlighted Metro’s paid leave policy for survivors of domestic violence and other crimes and distributed information about victim services. Building healthy workplaces is one of the best tools of preventing domestic violence. Contact the OFW for training or consultation on how you can support survivors and prevent domestic violence in your workplace.

Last Thursday, the OFW joined Louisville Medical & Education District to host a Domestic Violence Awareness Night Walk in the district to center a culture of safety and respect. Participants walked a route in the district to pay attention to elements that increase or decrease a sense of safety, usability and belonging. Many thanks to the Louisville Medical & Education District Ambassadors, Louisville Metro Police Dept Victim Services and UofL Health SAFE Services for being present to share key information on domestic violence, sexual assault and victims rights. Thanks also to OFW Ambassadors, members of GET In Louisville and community members who joined in the walk. Results from this walk will continue to shape the development of this area so that it is a community in which all can thrive.

In April (Teal Heart) and October (Purple Heart), we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month and Domestic Violence Awareness Month. But we can collectively take action everyday to prevent domestic and sexual violence.

While these crimes affect all communities, women and girls are especially impacted.

Prevention is possible through awareness, public policy, and safer community design.

Help is available, and everyone has a role. Share this message and take action to prevent gender based violence today.
