Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Elementary Coleridge-Taylor Montessori Magnet is the ONLY Public Montessori elementary school in Jefferson County.

Coleridge-Taylor Montessori is one of only two elementary schools in the District that offers the Montessori method of teaching through its Montessori Magnet Program. The Montessori method of education is based on self-directed and noncompetitive activities that promote positive self-image and confidence. This hands-on approach to education allows students to grasp a wide variety of academic and social skills to make learning easier. The curriculum is structured and ordered from concrete facts to abstract ideas, which offers the child the opportunity for successful learning and the joy of self-discovery. The curriculum also provides students with a firm foundation in language arts, mathematical concepts, science, geography, and practical living. Students learn in multi-age classrooms where children at various stages of development learn from and with one another. Preprimary classrooms serve students from preschool to six years of age. Primary classrooms are for six- to nine-year-olds; and Intermediate classes work with student’s nine to twelve years of age. This approach was designed to fit the child instead of making the child fit the program. Students also can take advantage of many cultural arts opportunities like band, orchestra, and violin lessons. Coleridge-Taylor offers the Advance Program, Early Montessori Childhood Jump Start programs for three- and four-year-olds, Montessori Tuition-based programs for three- and four-year-olds, Extended School Services, a Family Resource Center, and before- and after-school child care. Parents are encouraged to get involved in school and to participate in School Based Decision Making.

What an amazing week of hands-on discovery, reflection, and community! Here is your Week in Review! 🌟

Our learners spent the week deeply engaged in purposeful work, social-emotional growth, and collaborative exploration. Here are some of the highlights:

Kindergarten Nature Discovery & Practical Life:

Kindergarteners gathered fallen leaves on the playground, connecting directly with the natural world and observing seasonal shifts. 🍂 outdoor

Kindness & Community Care: Kindness Week was a meaningful success! Our youngest learners nurtured their social-emotional growth, expressed gratitude to essential staff across our building, and took pride in caring for their environment by gathering trash on the playground. 🧹💖

Warm Welcomes: First grade warmly welcomed back Ms. Joe—our classroom community felt complete with her return! 🤗❤️

Self-Directed Math Exploration:

Fifth graders concentrated deeply on masteries in fractional concepts. 🔢✏️

Third graders tackled "big math," building confidence with three-digit addition and subtraction. ➕➖

Focused Reading & Intrinsic Drive:

Third-grade students took ownership of accountable independent reading and finished crafting their literacy props. 📖🎭

Dedication in action: one student-athlete balanced mind and body by choosing 20 minutes of quiet, independent reading right after basketball practice! 🏀📚

Grace, Courtesy & Self-Awareness:

Our 2nd & 3rd Grade Girls' Group practiced tools for emotional self-regulation and inner peace. 💬🌿

The B A Y A (Beautiful As You Are) group explored thoughtful dialogue around self-perception, cosmic perspective, and mutual respect, expressing their insights through personal artwork. 🎨✨

Collaborative Movement & Expressive Arts:

Fourth graders built community and spatial awareness through cooperative group games. 🤝🏃‍♂️

Our Orchestra filled our environment with beautiful music, demonstrating dedication and harmony. 🎻🎶

It was a beautiful week of child-centered work, responsibility, and mutual respect. Thank you for walking alongside us, families—have a peaceful and restful weekend! 🏫❤️

National Custodian Day is coming up on October 2nd, but since we’ll be away on fall break, we’re kicking off the celebration early for our lovely night crew ladies, Ms. Maria and Ms. Daylen! 🌙✨

While most of us head home for the evening, Ms. Maria and Ms. Daylen work tirelessly behind the scenes night after night to ensure our building is clean, safe, and ready for us each morning.

To show our gratitude, Dr. Carmichael presented them with a special token of appreciation along with a card signed by our entire staff! 🎁💌

A special thanks from Dr. Carmichael as well for patiently helping her practice her Spanish in the evenings—she loves and appreciates those end-of-day chats to make her Spanish stronger for students and families! 🗣️

Ms. Maria and Ms. Daylen, thank you for your incredible dedication, hard work, and care for our space. We appreciate you more than words can say! 💙🙌
