Meet Madison – Our Central Hardin High School Co-op Student!

We are excited to introduce Madison, a senior at Central Hardin High School who has joined our Family Scholar House – Elizabethtown team through the Co-op Program in August 2026!

This is Madison’s first year participating in the program, and although she was initially unsure where she wanted to complete her placement, she chose Family Scholar House Elizabethtown. From her very first day, she knew she had found a place where she could make a difference!

Madison shared that the welcoming atmosphere, supportive environment, and opportunity to help others made Family Scholar House the perfect fit for her.

At Family Scholar House, we believe in investing in people, creating opportunities, and helping others succeed. We are especially proud to provide young people like Madison with opportunities to gain real-world experience while learning the importance of serving their community.

We are so happy to have Madison as part of our team, and we look forward to watching her grow, learn, and make a positive impact!

MyKY.info is a free app designed by Family Scholar House to help individuals quickly find the resources they need. It’s available to anyone with internet access, and at strategically placed kiosks in high-traffic areas.

It provides a wide range of free resources, including food pantries, clothing banks, homeless shelters, rent and transportation assistance, legal help, educational support, medical services, and more.

It also offers options for “Crisis Lines and Safe Places” and “Live Help.” The latter connects users with specialists at Family Scholar House’s Trager Response Center for non-emergency support. The app has a language option so users can switch between English, Spanish and French.

Last month, we were honored to receive a $2,000 grant from the Shelby County Community Foundation. We simply could not fulfill our mission to end the cycle of poverty and transform our community by empowering families and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency without this kind of community support. Thank you!

We’re excited to invite you to one of our favorite traditions at Family Scholar House - Reverse Trick or Treat. Instead of kids going door to door, volunteers like you deliver treats and smiles directly to the families we serve. It’s a special way to make Halloween brighter and safer.

This year’s Reverse Trick or Treat will take place on October 29, 2026. We will begin at 5:30 to give our families time to settle after school. We’re asking volunteers to come between 5 and 5:15. Volunteers are welcome to wear non-scary costumes and please bring goodies to hand out.

Please email [email protected] by October 12 if you’ll be joining us again and how many will be in your group. This will help determine the location for your group.

Because of each and every one of you, we were able to raise a record setting $262,520 in support of our Elizabethtown program!

We are particularly grateful that we were able to raise $26,800 to provide the beds and kitchen tables that help make an apartment a home for our new Elizabethtown families.

A big heartfelt thank you to all our sponsors, vendors, donors, and attendees for making this success possible. Your support is transforming lives!

I want to thank Chief Humphrey, the Louisville Metro Police Department, UofL’s police force and all of the law enforcement professionals who have worked tirelessly to bring us to this moment.

While the announcement of an arrest provides important answers about this tragedy, nothing can change the heartbreaking reality that two vibrant young women, Iyanna Warr and Trinity Durham, lost their lives.

Iyanna and Trinity were best friends. They were mothers. They were young women working to build better lives for themselves and their children. Like so many of our participants, they came to Family Scholar House because they wanted something more: education, opportunity, stability, and a different future for their families.

Today our thoughts remain with Iyanna and Trinity’s families and with the two young children who will grow up without their mothers.

In the 18 years since we opened our first campus, Family Scholar House has been a place where student parents and their children come seeking hope and opportunity. We will continue doing everything we can to make it a place where they find both.
