Please join us in congratulating Brandy Bernauer, Manager of External Affairs at The Center for Women and Families, on receiving the Sherry Currens Excellence in Advocacy Award from ZeroV!

The award was presented by Tisha Pletcher, CEO of ZeroV, during the organizationsโ€™s annual awards ceremony last week at its Frankfort office.

Brandy has dedicated nearly 25 years to The Center, serving in several roles throughout her tenure, including Childrenโ€™s Advocate in the Emergency Shelter, Supervisor of Emergency Crisis Shelter, Director of Emergency Crisis Shelter, and now Manager of External Affairs.

Her compassionate leadership, commitment to survivor-centered advocacy, and dedication to strengthening services for survivors and their children have made an extraordinary impact on our community. We are incredibly proud to celebrate Brandy and this well-deserved honor!

Established in 2019, the Sherry Currens Excellence in Advocacy Award honors ZeroVโ€™s first executive director and recognizes advocates who demonstrate an extraordinary commitment to supporting domestic violence survivors and their families across Kentucky.

ZeroV is Kentuckyโ€™s statewide coalition dedicated to creating safe lives and thriving futures for survivors of intimate partner violence and their children. The organization supports and coordinates regional domestic violence programs and shelters serving all 120 counties across the Commonwealth.

Thank You for Making our Speed Together event a Success! The Center for Women and Families partnered with Speed Art Museum for a special Speed Together: Explore + Create program on Sunday in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to The Speed Art Museum, with special appreciation to Shadia Nilforoush, Director of Public Programs, for helping coordinate and plan this successful event.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, including our wonderful volunteers, and participated in the hands-on art-making project led by traveling artist and muralist Jaylin Stewart. Participants created paper flowers featuring empowering messages for survivors. These flowers were placed on a mounted display board that will be on exhibit in The Centerโ€™s client lobby to encourage and inspire shelter residents.

We are also grateful to the Kentucky Foundation for Women for providing funding support for such a creative and meaningful program.

Domestic violence can affect far more than physical safety.

Survivors may experience anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, isolation and other lasting effects of trauma.

On World Mental Health Day, we recognize the importance of trauma-informed care and creating spaces where survivors can heal at their own pace.

The Center offers counseling and supportive services for survivors. To learn more or talk with an advocate, call 1-844-237-2331.
