Congratulations are in order. Last night we attended a special convocation. Lowell FD would like to welcome three new firefighters to the team. From Rookie Volunteers to Firefighters, FF J. Chambers, FF M. Bennett, and FF P. Farris have officially graduated from the Regional Emergency Services Training Center (RESTC) Summer Fire Academy at Gaston College.
With over 400 hours of instruction, 12 weeks of training, Monday - Friday 7am-5pm, early studious mornings, and late nights, Countless drills, and plenty of moments that tested their limits, it is over.
They were pushed, challenged, corrected, and tested—but they kept showing up and kept putting in the hard work.
Some of the courses completed were:
- Fire Behavior
- Forcible Entry
- Loss Control
- Ladders
- Ventilation
- Ropes & Knots
- Search & Rescue
- Water Supplies
- Fire Rescue Operations.
- Hose, Streams, & Appliances
To name a few.
Every fire academy class is asked to elect a peer acknowledgement of excellence for outstanding performance. Well, this year the class had a split decision the administrators and instructors granted the award to two firefighters. We are extremely proud and excited to announce that the class of 2026 called on two of our firefighters for the award! Congratulations to FF J. Chambers and FF M. Bennett for being named class top performers.
When asking FF Bennett if he felt deserving of the exceptional distinguished award for his performance, his answer was a confident and immediate “Yes.”
That confidence wasn’t earned through words—it was earned through “hard work, grit, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to getting better” Bennett says.
FF Bennett states that he consistently leaned on the knowledge and experience he already possessed while maintaining an eagerness to learn more. Rep after rep. Drill after drill. And when the reps were over, he asked for more. That relentless pursuit of improvement is what made him stand out.
But what truly separated Chambers and Bennett was their willingness to help others along the way. Whether it was a fellow station 17 members or a classmate they never hesitated to share some knowledge, lend a helping hand. Congrats men.
