Lower Burrell Police Department Safety Reminder: Electric Scooters and E-Bikes

The Lower Burrell Police Department has been receiving an increasing number of complaints and reports involving juveniles operating electric scooters and e-bikes in an unsafe manner throughout our community.

While electric scooters and e-bikes can be a convenient and enjoyable way to travel, they must be operated responsibly to help prevent injuries and protect everyone who shares our streets and sidewalks.

We ask parents and guardians to take a few moments to discuss safe riding practices with their children. Please remind them to:

โ€ข Wear a properly fitted helmet.
โ€ข Follow all traffic laws.
โ€ข Ride at safe and appropriate speeds.
โ€ข Avoid carrying passengers unless the scooter or e-bike is
specifically designed for more than one rider.
โ€ข Stay off private property unless permission has been
granted.
โ€ข Refrain from reckless behavior, such as weaving through
traffic, performing stunts, or riding in groups that
obstruct roadways or sidewalks.

Riders should also understand that some electric scooters and e-bikes may be subject to the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code, depending on where and how they are operated.

Our primary goal is education and prevention. However, officers will continue to address unsafe or unlawful behavior through enforcement when necessary.

We appreciate the partnership and support of our community in helping ensure that Lower Burrell remains a safe place for everyone.

Thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Summer is here and School is out!

With the warmer weather, longer days, and school breaks, more people are out and about enjoying everything the season has to offer. That means our roads, neighborhoods, parks, and sidewalks are busier than ever.
As you travel this summer, please remember to drive safely and stay alert:

๐Ÿš— Obey posted speed limits, especially in residential neighborhoods.
๐Ÿ›‘ Come to a complete stop at all stop signs.
๐Ÿšธ Watch for children playing, riding bikes, and crossing streets.
๐Ÿšถ Be mindful of pedestrians and joggers.
๐Ÿ“ฑ Put distractions away and keep your focus on the road.
๐Ÿšฒ Give cyclists plenty of room when passing.

A few extra seconds of caution can make all the difference. Let's work together to keep our community safe and ensure everyone enjoys a fun, happy, and accident-free summer.

Have a great summer, and drive safely!
