We've recently seen an increase in bicycle and scooter thefts, along with injuries involving these modes of transportation. The Texas Tech Police Department is asking for the campus community's help in protecting personal property and keeping our campus safe.
Here are a few thing you can do to help protect your property and stay safe while riding:
1️⃣ Use a heavy-duty, such as a U-lock, to secure your bicycle or scooter.
2️⃣Consider adding a tracking device to help locate your property if it's lost or stolen.
3️⃣Register your property for free with Transportation and Parking, and keep a record of your serial number, model, and brand.
4️⃣Take photos of your property and make note of any unique features.
5️⃣Follow traffics laws while riding. Bicycles and scooters must obey the rules of the road, including stopping at stop signs and traffic lights.
6️⃣If you see something suspicious, say something! Your information could help us prevent a theft or solve an investigation.
If you witness suspicious activity or have other information that may assist with an investigation, please contact the Texas Tech Police Department at 806-742-3931. Our officers patrol campus 24/7, 365 days a year to keep our campus community safe. Look out for one another and stay safe Red Raiders!
