📣 Meet Your LCDP Officers: James Snoddy (he/him), Parliamentarian

It’s fitting that we’re kicking off our officer introduction series on the first day of classes at Texas Tech, so we’re starting with our resident TTU student, James!

He is an Honors Sciences and Humanities student at Texas Tech (Politics, Philosophy, Economics, and Law) from Flower Mound, TX. His organizing roots go back to high school, where he served as Student Council President and helped lead the fight for an LGBTQ+ inclusive district.
Since arriving at Tech, he has become a member of SGA, SJP, Raiders for Reproductive Rights, and is now the President of TTU Democrats. It made perfect sense to begin building the bridge between the LCDP and Tech Dems.

James said, “I’ve always felt a strong need to support others and speak out against injustice. We have such a great opportunity to make Texas a better place for ALL people in November and beyond.”

Fun facts: James was a team manager for TTU Men’s Basketball, and he currently works with the Kennedy Human Rights Center. 🏀
James’s goal for his term is to make Lubbock, TTU, and Texas a better place for ALL people.

We also want to say welcome to everyone who’s joined us in the last couple of months. We’re glad you’re here, and we hope you’ll stick around to meet the rest of the team leading LCDP this year.

Stay tuned for more officer intros! 💙

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
LUBBOCK COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CONDEMNS OFFENSIVE SOCIAL MEDIA POST BY LUBBOCK YOUNG REPUBLICANS

LUBBOCK, TX -- The Lubbock County Democratic Party is issuing a formal statement strongly condemning a social media post published Saturday by the Lubbock Young Republicans. The post contained offensive racial rhetoric, explicitly urging voters to "vote with the hard R", a clear and deliberate reference to a deeply harmful racial slur targeting the Black community.

"It is no secret that the Republican Party no longer exists and has been taken over by MAGA, which is made up of many racists. They prove this in their dog whistles to racism," said Gracie Gomez, Chair of the Lubbock County Democratic Party. "It is disheartening and disturbing that this has been recently proven so blatantly in Lubbock. The Lubbock County Democratic Party condemns this recent post by the Lubbock Young Republicans featuring one of the most offensively racist terms used towards the Black community."

The post, which featured a photograph of Lubbock County Commissioner Jason Corley and Jim Baxa of the Lubbock County Central Appraisal District and also received direct online support from Kyla Sell (wife of congressional candidate Tom Sell), remained active for over six hours. The Lubbock Young Republicans only removed the post after significant public outcry and widespread condemnation began to mount online.

Chair Gomez called for immediate, public accountability across Lubbock County:

"Our Party calls on all Lubbock leaders, state and local elected officials, the local media, and Lubbock residents to speak out against this abhorrent racism and to hold those responsible accountable for posting this. Shame on the Lubbock Young Republicans for publishing such hatred, and shame on all who accept or excuse this behavior."

The Lubbock County Democratic Party stands firmly against all forms of hate speech, racial prejudice, and systemic division. Our community deserves leadership that promotes unity, respect, and civil dignity for every resident, regardless of race or political affiliation.

We urge all elected officials, community leaders, and civic organizations across West Texas to formally denounce this post and hold those involved accountable.
