🖤 Funeral Fact Friday 🖤
We thought we’d have a little fun this Friday and share some things you might *not* know about funerals, traditions, and the history of saying goodbye. ⚰️
Here are a few that might surprise you:
⚰️ Coffin or casket? A traditional coffin has six sides, while a casket has four.
🔥 Cremation goes WAY back! The oldest evidence of cremation dates back nearly 20,000 years.
🐘 Even animals grieve. Elephants and chimpanzees have been observed covering their dead with leaves and branches.
⛰️ Closer to heaven. In some cultures, coffins have been placed or suspended along cliffs because of the belief that being closer to the sky brings the deceased closer to heaven.
👑 A funeral watched around the world. An estimated 2.5 billion people watched Princess Diana's 1997 funeral.
🔥 Cremation wasn't always legal. It became legal in Britain in 1902 after years of campaigning.
And here's one that really makes you stop and think…
🎂 Living to 116 is incredibly rare. Only about 1 in 2 billion people are estimated to reach that age.
Funeral traditions may look different from one culture—or even one family—to another, but they all have something in common: they help us honor the people we love and remember the lives they lived. ❤️
