Math is MORE fun when we work together!

Who says math has to be done alone? From partners to small groups, our elementary mathematicians are putting their heads together, sharing ideas, solving problems, and are learning from one another!

We love seeing our students collaborate, communicate and grow as confident mathematicians.....

How to recognize fentanyl poisoning

According to the CDC, warning signs of an opioid overdose include:
• Unresponsiveness: The person cannot be awakened.
• Slow or stopped breathing: Breathing may be shallow, irregular, or absent.
• Unusual sounds: Gurgling, choking, or snoring sounds in someone who cannot be awakened.
• Pinpoint pupils: The pupils become unusually small.
• Blue, gray, or discolored lips and nails: A possible sign of oxygen deprivation.

What to do if you suspect an overdose
1. Give naloxone immediately. Use Narcan or another available naloxone product according to its instructions. Give another dose after 2–3 minutes if the person has not responded and symptoms persist.
2. Call 911. Tell the dispatcher that an opioid overdose is suspected. Do not wait to see whether naloxone works.
3. Support breathing. Follow the 911 dispatcher's instructions for rescue breathing or CPR. If the person is breathing normally but remains unconscious, place them on their side.

Stay with the person until emergency help arrives. Naloxone can wear off before fentanyl does, so overdose symptoms can return.

The House Competition is ON! GJH is collecting candy for Monsters on Main, and we're challenging all SIX houses to see who can bring in the most candy to support our community!

October 13–27

Students can drop off candy donations at the front office. Please make sure each donation is labeled with the student's house name so it can be counted toward the correct house.

🏆 The house that collects the MOST candy wins 100 House Points!

Let's show our Eagle pride and come together to make this community event a success!

10 Important Facts About Fentanyl

1. Fentanyl is extremely potent. Pharmaceutical fentanyl is used medically for severe pain and anesthesia. Illicitly manufactured fentanyl is a major driver of fatal overdoses.

2. A person may not know they are taking it. Fentanyl can be mixed into he**in, co***ne, methamphetamine, and other illicit drugs, or sold in counterfeit pills resembling prescription medications.

3. A very small amount can be deadly. The risk depends on the amount, concentration, route of exposure, and a person's opioid tolerance. There is no reliable way to judge the contents or strength of an illicit pill by looking at it.

4. It can stop a person's breathing. Fentanyl can suppress the brain's drive to breathe, depriving the body of oxygen and potentially causing death.

5. Overdose can happen quickly. Warning signs can develop within minutes, particularly when fentanyl is taken by smoking, snorting, or injection.

6. Naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose. Naloxone, often sold under the brand name Narcan, can restore breathing temporarily. Multiple doses may be needed for fentanyl overdoses.

7. Anyone can be affected. Overdose risk is not limited to people with opioid addiction. A person who takes a counterfeit pill believing it is a legitimate prescription drug may also be at risk.

8. Mixing substances increases danger. Combining fentanyl with alcohol, benzodiazepines such as Xanax, or other sedating drugs can increase the risk of dangerously slowed breathing.

9. Survival is possible with rapid action. Calling 911, administering naloxone, and providing rescue breathing or CPR as appropriate can save a life.

10. Fentanyl-related deaths are not the same as all drug overdose deaths. National statistics may count deaths involving multiple substances, so a death involving fentanyl and another drug may appear in more than one substance category.
