WHAT IF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS DIDN’T VOLUNTEER?

Look at this picture for a moment. Imagine that road is your road. Imagine that fire truck is needed at your house. Imagine your child, your spouse, your parents, or your neighbor is the one waiting for help.

What if nobody answered the call?

Volunteer firefighters leave their homes, families, jobs, and warm beds to respond when someone else is having the worst day of their life. They do it because they care about their community. They do it because someone has to be there when disaster strikes.

But volunteer fire departments across our communities are struggling. We cannot keep answering the call without people willing to stand beside us.

EAST HOWELLSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOU!

You don't have to be a hero before you walk through our doors. You don't have to know everything about firefighting. You just need a willingness to learn, a heart to serve, and a desire to make a difference.

There are many ways you can help:
Respond to emergencies.
Help with equipment and apparatus.
Assist with administrative duties.
Support your fellow firefighters and your community.

We will help you learn. We will help you train. And we will give you the opportunity to become part of something bigger than yourself.

One day, your family might need a firefighter. One day, your neighbor might need a rescue. One day, the person answering that call could be YOU.

Don't wait until you need us to realize how much we need you.

STEP UP. SERVE YOUR COMMUNITY. BECOME A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER.

WHAT IF? — EAST HOWELLSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOU!

Wednesday, October 21, 2026 — Where were you at 4:30 AM this morning?

While many of our community members were sleeping, your East Howellsville Fire Department was responding to a call for help. Someone's home in our community had been reported on fire.

Thankfully, everything worked out, and the situation was okay. But it left me thinking about two words that every firefighter understands:

WHAT IF?

❓ What if that home had been burning?

❓ What if a mother or father had been trapped inside?

❓ What if a small child had been waiting for someone to rescue them?

❓ What if we had needed more firefighters, but nobody was available to answer the call?

WHAT IF!!!!!!

These are questions we never want to face without enough people ready to respond.

Today, I'm asking you to think about something. The next time that pager sounds at 4:30 AM, will you be one of the people sleeping through the call, or will you be one of the people standing ready to help your neighbors?

WE NEED YOU TO VOLUNTEER FOR THE “WHAT IF.”

You don't have to be a hero. You don't have to know everything about firefighting. You simply have to be willing to learn, train, and serve your community.

WHAT CAN YOU RECEIVE IN RETURN?

✅ Free firefighter education and training opportunities.

✅ Pay-per-call incentives.

✅ Pay for eligible training.

✅ The opportunity to learn valuable skills and grow as a person.

✅ The satisfaction of knowing you made a difference when someone needed help the most.

But the greatest reward cannot be measured in dollars.

It's the feeling of knowing that because YOU showed up, someone had help when they needed it most. It's knowing that a family had someone fighting for them. It's knowing that when the worst day of someone's life happens, your community has people willing to stand up and answer the call.

East Howellsville Fire Department needs volunteers. Our community needs you.

You don't have to run into a burning building on day one. You can learn, train, and discover how you can contribute to the team.

One day, that call could be your neighbor. Your friend. Your family.

WHAT IF YOU WERE THE ONE WHO MADE THE DIFFERENCE?

STAND UP. STEP FORWARD. VOLUNTEER.

Contact East Howellsville Fire Department today and ask how you can become part of our team.

Don't wait for the next “WHAT IF?” to wish you had helped.

EAST HOWELLSVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT NEEDS YOU!

What if the next time someone calls 911, there isn't enough help to answer?

Imagine a mother watching smoke pour from her home, praying someone will come. Imagine a family waiting for a loved one to return home safely. Imagine your neighbor calling for help, knowing that the people who could save them are stretched too thin.

Now imagine being the person who helps make a difference.

That is what the volunteer fire service is all about. It's not about fame, recognition, or wearing a uniform. It's about people helping people when life is at its worst.

For generations, volunteers have stood between danger and the communities they love. They have left dinner tables, gotten out of bed in the middle of the night, missed holidays, and sacrificed their time because someone needed help.

But the volunteer fire service is hurting. We need people willing to step up before it's too late.

East Howellsville Fire Department is looking for firefighters, administrative support, and community-minded individuals who want to make a difference.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A HERO TO JOIN. YOU JUST HAVE TO CARE.

You don't have to know everything when you start. We can help you get trained. You don't have to be available every minute of every day. Every person who is willing to contribute something can help strengthen our department.

✅ Free firefighter and EMS training opportunities
✅ Flexible volunteer commitment
✅ Opportunities for stipends and retirement benefits
✅ Insurance and educational opportunities
✅ Opportunities to serve without entering a burning building
✅ A chance to build friendships, learn valuable skills, and give back to your community

We need working people. We need retirees. We need farmers, parents, people who work from home, and people who simply want to help their neighbors. We also need people behind the scenes who can help with paperwork, equipment, and department activities.

Please don't assume somebody else will step up. You might be the somebody we've been waiting for.

Every department has a history. Every community has people who have answered the call. The question is whether we will have enough people willing to carry that tradition into the next generation.

One day, you may need us. Someone you love may need us.

Please help make sure we're there when that day comes.
