Introducing EHMS 26-27 Teacher of the Year, Ms. Jenny
We are so proud to have Ms. Jenny as a part of our eagle family! Enjoy reading about Ms. Jenny below!
I started my teaching career in 2022 at East Hickman Intermediate School teaching 5th grade, and in 2025, I made the move to East Hickman Middle School to teach 7th grade math. I absolutely fell in love with teaching middle schoolers! One of the best parts of the move has been getting to teach the same kids I had in 5th grade all over again. Watching them grow, mature, and become the amazing humans they are today has been such a blessing.
I’ve also been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some amazing people at both schools. From the coworkers who helped me find my footing as a new teacher to the staff who welcomed me into the middle school family and made me feel right at home, I’m so thankful for the people I get to work with. Teaching definitely isn’t a one-person job, and I’m lucky to work with so many wonderful people who support and encourage one another. To be recognized by the very people I work alongside every day means more to me than I can put into words.
Above all else, my family means the world to me. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible family I have at home and the love, support, and encouragement they give me every single day. I’m beyond thankful for the family and friends who are always there for me in more ways than I could ever put into words.
The best part about family is that it’s always growing, and I get to add to mine every single year. Just like I tell my students on day one, the moment they walk through my classroom door, they become one of my kids. Whether they’re sitting in my classroom, walking the halls of high school, off at college, or somewhere beyond, they will always be one of my kids. And I will always be there for them along the way. I’m also so thankful for the families who trust me with their children and allow me to be a part of their lives. So many of my kids and their grown-ups have become such an important part of my life, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
Teaching is about so much more than test scores and data. Of course, academic growth and success are important, but so is the kind of person a child becomes along the way. My classroom has one simple rule: Be a Good Human. And honestly, that’s my goal. To be a part of raising good humans. I want my kids to learn math, challenge themselves, and be successful, but I also want them to know they matter. At the end of the day, if I can make a positive impact on their lives, remind them that they are loved, and make sure they know they always have someone in their corner, then I know I’ve done my job.
They are my why. They’re the reason I come to work every day. They’re the reason I do what I do. I love my job because I love my kids. Each and every one of them.
