LYME FIRE TRAINING NIGHT
Chimney Fire Ops and Laddering
Hamburg Station 20-OCT-26 @ 19:00

It is chimney fire season again, and tonight we practiced interior and exterior ops communications and proper laddering and safety practices. We performed two evolutions, and saw an improvement in team communications which is essential in all fire operations.

Why practice on the fire station roof? Because the size and pitch makes laddering more difficult than on a typical residence. This challenge sharpens our skills.

LYME FIRE LIVE BURN TRAINING
Salem, 03-OCT-26 @ 08:30

Today we trained in Salem using their burn house and performed multiple fire search and suppression rotations in two and three person teams. The day's training was supported by Middlesex County Fire School, and members of Salem Fire.

We want to thank Salem Volunteer Fire Company for hosting this important and required live-burn training for interior qualified firefighters.

Since live fire training presents risks, we particularly want to thank Chief Olstein and Lyme EMS for providing the standby crew today looking after us.

THE COST OF TRAINING

Trainings such as live burns consume materials that are costly and have to be paid for with donations. We are looking for funds or direct material donations of specific sheet lumber or hay bales to support Salem's training capability. We thank you in advance for your support of our mutual-aid fire department.

CLEANING UP AND BACK IN SERVICE

Lastly, when we leave the training site after cleaning up the burn house, the work is not done. We return to our station and fuel apparatus, fill water tanks and extinguishers, check gear, clean SCBA packs and fill air bottles. The spirit and focus of our volunteers who are already exhausted, to make sure we are ready for the real thing, is a testament to their dedication.

LYME FIRE MOTOR VEHICLE STABILIZATION AND EXTRICATION TRAINING PART II
Hamburg Station, 29-SEP-26 @ 19:00

Tonight we completed the second half of our motor vehicle stabilization and extrication class taught by Middlesex County Fire School.

An even more in-depth session tonight with the donated vehicle rolled, crushed and staged on an embankment with a simulated entrapped victim using our training mannequin "Tommy" again.

Multiple rotations of stabilization efforts, cutting and using a Sawzall, Hurst tool spreaders and cutters to remove the roof of the vehicle.

Later we rolled it back over on its wheels and practiced door removals and a dash roll, lifting and rolling a dashboard with cutters, spreaders, rams and step chocks to assist in removing a victim from entrapment in a motor vehicle accident.

As always, thanks to Lyme Public Works for allowing us to train behind their facility, and the use of the backhoe. Everyone left tonight with sharpened skills, and better methods of performing safe extrications.

LYME FIRE MOTOR VEHICLE STABILIZATION TRAINING
Hamburg Station 22-SEP-26 @ 19:00

Tonight was part one of a two day vehicle stabilization and vehicle extrication training program taught by Middlesex County Fire School.

We were using a donated vehicle to simulate a motor vehicle accident (MVA) with an entrapped victim under the vehicle using our training mannequin.

Repetitive rotations with different teams using jacks, step chocks, cribbing, straps and a Paratech multistage air lifting bag.

Thanks to our instructors for leading a valuable training exercise tonight. Look forward to part two, next Tuesday night.
