We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Retired Sergeant Norman Claytor, Jr.

Sgt. Claytor proudly served our community for 26 years, joining our department in 1996 following his honorable service in the United States Army. Over his career, he wore many hats, from Narcotics Detective and Crisis Negotiations Team member to being named CIT Officer of the Year in 2015.

While he served with dedication and heart in all of his roles, his true home was patrol. He achieved a career dream when he was promoted to Sergeant in 2018, finishing his tenure leading B Platoon doing what he loved most.

Sgt. Claytor was fiercely proud of this department and wholly committed to the people of Lynchburg. We are truly humbled by his faith, dedication, and service.

Funeral arrangements and information on how to support his family will be shared once finalized as an update to this post.

Please keep his family, loved ones, and blue family in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn his loss. He leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be profoundly missed.

A quick reminder, Lynchburg. πŸ›‘

A stop sign means STOP. And when a Lynchburg City Schools bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended, that means STOP, too.

Not β€œI can sneak by.” Not β€œI'm in a hurry.” Not β€œI don't see anyone.”

Kids are counting on drivers to do the right thing. A child's safety is worth the extra few seconds.

Today, we remember Officer George M. Ware, End of Watch: October 10, 1933.

More than 90 years later, his name is still honored and permanently etched on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C., and in our own LPD Honor Garden.

Officer Ware was fatally shot in the line of duty while serving this community. He made the ultimate sacrifice, but the work he gave his life to did not end with him.

Generation after generation of LPD officers have picked up the mantle, putting on the uniform and continuing the work of protecting this city.

His sacrifice is not forgotten. His memory lives on in those who continue to serve.

πŸŽ‰ 30 Years of Service: Celebrating Cindy Kozerow!

Since joining the Lynchburg Police Department in 1996, Cindy Kozerow has been a constant presence, a champion for crime prevention, and a familiar, trusted resource for our community.

Over the past 30 years, Cindy has made an impact in countless ways. She organizes our Neighborhood Watch Program, oversees our Loss Prevention Taskforce, and helps lead our Citizen's Police Academy. As an avid educator, she teaches in the Criminal Justice Academy and works with community members to share knowledge about safety, security, situational awareness, and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED).

You'll also find Cindy out in the community, attending events, connecting with residents, and sharing her knowledge wherever it's needed. Her expertise has helped schools, houses of worship, businesses, and community organizations strengthen security and find ways to make Lynchburg safer.

Whether she's teaching, building relationships, lending a hand, or looking out for her LPD family (sometimes with a little motherly care), Cindy is always ready to support others.

She may not wear a badge and carry a gun, but Cindy embodies the dedication, service, and commitment to community that define the Lynchburg Police Department.

πŸ’™ Thank you, Cindy, for 30 years of making a difference and for the countless lives you've touched along the way!

And before anyone asks, she's not retiring yet! πŸ˜‰
