North Whatcom Fire and Rescue - WCFD 21 North Whatcom Fire And Rescue..."Semper Paratus" Proudly serving the communities of WCFD21 and WCFD4

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue provides service to 182 square miles of residential, recreational, industrial and agricultural land in Whatcom County. In the summer months the population of 44, 040 grows by 10-12,000 as visitors flock to the Semiahmoo and Birch Bay resort communities. The northern end of the district runs East from Boundary Bay and the City of Blaine in the for 36 miles along the Canadian Border. On the south we border Lake Whatcom and encompass the unincorporated NE corner of the City of Bellingham East of SR 539 and cover northern Whatcom County north of the City of Ferndale. NWFR is a combination fire department, relying on both career and volunteer firefighters to provide fire suppression and emergency medical services. Our career firefighters are all medically trained to the level of EMT-Basic. NWFR staffs sixty full paid personnel of which forty-nine are full paid sworn combat personnel, six support personnel, and seventy-six part-paid and volunteers. The fire district operates from thirteen fire stations with four full paid engine companies with two of those companies being crossed-staffed to ladder trucks, and one part-paid engine company.

Thank you for carving out time with us! 🎃🚒

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our NWFR pumpkin carving party last Saturday! Your creativity blew us away, from spooky faces to silly grins to some seriously impressive designs.

We had a blast carving alongside you, and seeing so many neighbors come together made our day. Events like this are one of our favorite parts of serving this community. We love getting to hang out with you outside of emergencies, and we can’t wait to do it again.

A very special thank you to FF Smith for organizing the event.

Happy Halloween, and a reminder that LED candles are a great alternative to open flames for your jack o lantern🎃

Like any good team, a fire crew runs on trust, communication, and practice. Firefighting is a team sport, and it’s the people beside us who make the difference. It takes a team to keep each other safe and get the job done 🔥

🚒 Thank you, Blaine Primary! 🚒

Yesterday, our crews visited Blaine Primary School for a public education visit with students. The kids got an up-close look at our firefighters’ gear and the fire truck, and they had plenty of great questions!

Seeing firefighters in full gear can be a little scary for young children, so moments like this help them learn that we’re friendly helpers they can trust in an emergency. Thank you to the students and staff for the warm welcome. We loved every minute! Blaine School District, WA

Service takes many forms, and John Crawford shows up for this community in more ways than most.

Thank you to our friends Meridian School District 505 for highlighting him. By day, he's behind the wheel getting local kids to school safely. He's also one of our fire district commissioners, helping guide North Whatcom Fire & Rescue and making sure we can be there when our neighbors need us.

We're grateful for John and for everyone who gives their time to make Whatcom County a better place to live.

If you see a school bus this week, give the driver a wave 🚌

🚒Today our Station 63 crew stopped by Custer Elementary to talk all things fire with students.

We got to show off the engine and our gear and let students see that firefighters are friendly helpers, not something to be scared of. Their questions were awesome, and we’re pretty sure we met a few future firefighters. 🧑‍🚒

Thank you to the teachers and staff for welcoming us!

Behind the scenes 🚒

Before every class comes the prep. Senior firefighters are running through an upcoming lesson plan and practicing the skills that will soon be taught to our incoming probationary firefighters.

Experience matters, but so does passing it on. Every drill, tip, and lesson learned on the job helps build the foundation for the firefighters who will be serving our community for years to come.

We were also lucky to have one of Meridian High School’s fire program students stop by to watch. Great to see the next generation already so interested in the craft! 👏

Happy Thanksgiving to our neighbors to the north! 🍁🇨🇦

Today we’re raising a coffee cup across the border. To our Canadian friends celebrating Thanksgiving, we hope your day is full of good food, family, and gratitude.

Our community doesn’t stop at a line on a map. It’s shaped by the people on both sides who look out for each other.

We’re grateful for you, and for the friendship that makes this corner of the world so special.

Wishing you a safe and happy Thanksgiving! 🧡
