👻 HALLOWEEN TIPS FROM LHPD 👻

We hope your Halloween is full of treats, laughter, and costumes that don’t require a search party to identify.

A few quick reminders for a safe night:

🚶 Use sidewalks and crosswalks. The shortest route to candy is not always the safest one.

🔦 Carry a flashlight or add reflective tape to costumes. Being seen is better than making a dramatic entrance in a driver’s headlights.

🦸 Lots of kids may be dressed alike. Add a unique touch to your child’s costume so you can spot them in a crowd—you don’t want to take the wrong Super Hero home!

🚗 Drivers, slow down and watch for little ghosts, superheroes, and ninjas who may suddenly appear between parked cars.

🚓 Our police cars will be cruising the neighborhoods—our only pursuit is a safe Halloween (and maybe a runaway Tootsie Roll)!

🧑‍🧑‍🧒 Keep younger trick-or-treaters with a trusted adult.

🍬 Check treats before anyone starts negotiating for “just one more.”

Have fun, look out for one another, and remember: even superheroes should stop at crosswalks. Have a safe and happy Halloween from all of us at LHPD! 🎃

LYNN HAVEN, Fla. — The City of Lynn Haven will join municipalities across the state in be in celebrating Florida Cities Week, October 19-25, inviting residents to learn more about the people, services and work that keep their community running.

The Lynn Haven City Commission approved a proclamation officially recognizing October 19–25, 2026, as Florida Cities Week in Lynn Haven, joining municipalities across the state in highlighting the role local government plays in the everyday lives of residents.

The centerpiece of the week will be a City Hall Open House, where residents can meet City staff and elected officials and learn more about City services. Visitors can pick up a special Florida Cities Week Passport and move freely from station to station, collecting stamps while meeting representatives from City departments and discovering more about the work they do every day.

The City’s Haven 444 podcast will also feature a special Florida Cities Week episode taking listeners behind the scenes of hurricane preparation and response. Through conversations with City department leaders, the episode will explore how departments prepare before a storm, coordinate during an emergency, assess damage and work together to restore services to the community.

Adding a creative perspective to the Florida Cities Week, artwork by students from Mowat Middle School will be installed at City hall on Wednesday, October 21. Created around the theme “Lynn Haven feels Like Home,’ the students’ work reflects the places, people and experiences that make Lynn Haven feel like home to them. Members of the commission will recognize selected works with special Commissioners’ Awards. The artwork will remain on display at City Hall through October 30 and is open for the public to view.

“Florida Cities Week gives residents an opportunity to see their local government up close and meet the people who serve this community every day,” said City Manager Chris Lightfoot. “We

want people to come into City Hall, ask questions, learn about the different services we provide and see how our departments work together to make Lynn Haven a great place to live.”

Florida Cities Week will also mark the introduction of Inside City Hall, a new City communications feature designed to give residents a closer look at how the city works. Future stories will take readers behind the scenes to explore topics such as what happens before a City Commission meeting, how the City prepares before a storm, how services and projects can be understood “by the numbers,” and the people, processes and planning behind the everyday work of local government.

🌀⚠️ STORM PREPARATION – BE READY ⚠️🌀

The Lynn Haven Police Department continues to monitor the tropical system in the Gulf.

While the exact track and intensity can still change, NOW is the time to prepare. Don’t wait until severe weather arrives to get ready.

🏠 PREPARE YOUR HOME
• Secure or bring inside outdoor furniture, trash cans, decorations, and other loose items.
• Make sure you have several days of food, drinking water, medications, and other necessities.
• Charge cell phones, battery packs, flashlights, and other electronic devices.
• Fuel vehicles and generators.
• Remember — NEVER operate a generator inside your home, garage, or near doors or windows.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 PREPARE YOUR FAMILY
• Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone who may need assistance.
• Have a plan for your family and pets.
• Know where you will go if conditions worsen or an evacuation is ordered.
• Continue monitoring official weather information and local emergency management updates.

⚠️ DON’T WAIT UNTIL THE STORM ARRIVES

Conditions can change quickly. Even areas outside the storm’s direct path may experience heavy rain, strong wind gusts, downed trees, power outages, and hazardous road conditions.

🚨 IF YOU ARE TOLD TO EVACUATE — PLEASE GO

If an evacuation order is issued for your area, take it seriously and evacuate when instructed.

During extremely dangerous weather, conditions may become too hazardous for police officers, firefighters, EMS, and other emergency personnel to safely respond. If you choose to remain after being ordered to evacuate, emergency responders may not be able to immediately reach you if you need help.

👮‍♂️ WE’RE PREPARING, TOO

The Lynn Haven Police Department will continue monitoring conditions and coordinating with our local emergency management partners as the storm approaches.

Stay tuned to trusted local and official sources for the latest information.

🌀 PREPARE NOW.
📱 STAY INFORMED.
💙 STAY SAFE, LYNN HAVEN.
