CVM Staff Spotlight: Meet Fred!

Beginning in 1983, God led veterinarians Fred (WSU '83) and Vicki (OSU '82) to Ethiopia for veterinary and community development, church planting and mission leadership. The Lord blessed them to raise 4 children out in the bush with the privilege of helping start churches among about 9 under-reached and unreached people groups. Then in 2008, the Lord led them back to the States to serve in the CVM home office. Today, Vicki has retired and Fred is part of a team to mobilize and mentor veterinary missionaries in the USA and other countries (affiliates), with special focus on Africa, Europe and the Middle East. He loves to share what God is doing and to challenge people to pray, go, or partner in the Great Commission.

Happy Fieldworker Friday: Meet Allen!

Dr. Allen Wachter, DVM, DMin, is a semi-retired veterinarian, retired ordained pastor in the Free Methodist Church, and long-time mission mobilizer with a deep passion for expressing Christ’s love through veterinary medicine. A graduate of Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and George Fox University’s Doctor of Ministry program, Allen integrates veterinary science, theology, and sustainable development to empower Christian leaders around the world. Dr. Allen leads the Empowered by Livestock, Guided by Faith initiative—a sustainable development project in Zambia that equips rural pastors with livestock and training to strengthen their ministries and communities. In partnership with the Free Methodist Church in Zambia, pastors are provided with goats and chickens along with veterinary training, mentorship, and resources to build self-reliant income through animal husbandry. Pastors gain economic stability, helping them feed their families, send children to school, and serve their congregations without the burden of poverty. The "pay-it-forward" model promotes community multiplication as offspring are passed on to other pastors or church members.

Did you know? In a region of Central Asia with more than 30 million people, many farmers have little or no access to veterinary care—and only about 0.1% follow Christ. A vet in rural villages can strengthen livestock, family income, and relationships that open doors to the Gospel. The need is great. Will you go? cvm.org/longterm
