Electric co-ops need talented people in the field, in the office and everywhere in between. From lineworkers, engineers and system operators to accounting, communications, accounting and IT, there’s a place for many different skills and interests. If you’re interested in making a career change, consider an electric cooperative.

As we continue to celebrate National Co-op Month, recognizing our members is a must! Members are the heart of co-ops. Unlike traditional businesses that are led by investors or shareholders, co-ops are led by the members they serve––and that positively impacts priorities. Investing locally and providing long-term value is the co-op way. ❤️

Electric co-ops are places to build a career and connections, develop your skills and make a difference in the community you call home. Whether you’re keeping the lights on, helping a member save energy, maintaining critical infrastructure or supporting the people who do, your work matters. This Careers in Energy Week, we’re celebrating the people who power our communities—and the many paths available to join them.

Even strong passwords can be compromised. Multifactor authentication adds an extra layer of protection by requiring an additional way to verify your identity—such as a code sent to your phone or an authentication app. Turn on MFA for important accounts whenever it’s available, especially for email, financial and utility accounts.

The latest utility impersonation scams are increasingly convincing. A scammer may claim Altamaha EMC/Fiber is about to disconnect your service, then demand immediate payment through an unusual method. If you ever receive an unexpected payment request, pause and verify it. Contact us at 912-526-8181 to verify.

It’s National Co-op Month! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing a few facts about cooperatives and the factors that make them a bit unique compared to traditional business models. To kick things off, take a look at the different kinds of co-ops:

- Utility Co-ops: Provide essential services like electricity, water or broadband and are led by the members they serve.
- Consumer Co-ops: Owned by the people who shop there or use its products and services.
- Producer Co-ops: Help farmers, ranchers or other producers work together to market and sell their products.
- Worker Co-ops: Owned and operated by the employees who work there.
- Housing Co-ops: Give residents the opportunity to own and manage their housing together.
- Retail Co-ops: Allow members to shop at and help support a member-owned
- retail business.
- Financial Co-ops: Member-owned financial institutions, such as credit unions, that provide banking services.

Co-op may look a little different depending on the services they offer, but one characteristic is true for all: co-ops exist to serve their members.

Scammers want you to act before you have time to think. Before clicking a link in an email or text, stop and look closely. Is the message unexpected? Does the website address look legitimate? Is someone pressuring you to act immediately? When in doubt, go directly to the company’s official website or contact them using a trusted phone number—not the information provided in the suspicious message.

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which is a great time to strengthen your online accounts. One of the easiest steps? Make your passwords longer. A long, unique passphrase can be harder for cybercriminals to crack than a short password packed with special characters. Choose something memorable but difficult for others to guess—and never reuse passwords across multiple accounts.
