Remembering Wes Nunley

The Village of Mackinaw would like to recognize and honor the life of Wesley โ€œWesโ€ Nunley, a longtime resident who dedicated many years to serving our community.

Wes served on the Village Board of Trustees from 1988โ€“1992, as a member of the Zoning Board from 2002โ€“2012, and as Zoning Board Chairman from 2012โ€“2014.

Beyond his years of public service, Wes played an important role in helping make Nunley Field at Brock Lake a reality, providing a place for generations of Mackinaw youth to enjoy baseball, softball, and football.

Wes believed in his community and showed that commitment through his years of service and involvement. His contributions to Mackinaw will continue to be appreciated for years to come.

The Village of Mackinaw extends its sincere condolences to the Nunley family and thanks Wes for his many years of dedication to our community.

Celebrate the life of Wesley Nunley and join others in sharing memories, stories, and condolences.

๐ŸŽƒ Mackinaw BooFest is coming! ๐Ÿ‘ป

BooFest is a community effort with activities being put together by the Village of Mackinaw, Mackinaw Lions Club, and New Castle Bible Church, along with several stops throughout downtown. We hope everyone will come out and enjoy a fun, family-friendly Halloween night in Mackinaw!

Join us Saturday, October 31 from 4:00โ€“8:00 PM for BooFest. There will be several stops around downtown, so make sure you visit them all!

๐ŸŽƒ Start at the Mackinaw Community Center to pick up your BooFest Passport and Scavenger Hunt card. There will be candy, giveaways, games, snacks and drinks, a photo opportunity, and the Business Pumpkin Decorating Contest. Make sure you vote for your favorite decorated pumpkin!

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Next, stop by the Mackinaw Police Station for candy and other fun items, a photo opportunity, and your passport stamp. The Police Department will also be handing out glow-in-the-dark necklaces to help our kids be more visible while they're out enjoying Halloween night.

๐Ÿ“š Then head over to the Mackinaw District Public Library for some Halloween candy and another stamp in your passport. Stop in, grab a treat, and say hello to our friends at the library!

๐Ÿ‘ป At 5:30 PM, we'll meet at the Community Center for the Costume Parade and walk together to the Mackinaw Fire Station.

๐Ÿš’ The Mackinaw Fire Station will be open for BooFest from 5:00โ€“8:00 PM! Finish your BooFest stops here, where there will be candy, giveaways, games, apple c***r, and FREE hot dogs and chips while supplies last! Turn in your completed passport for a prize, unscramble your scavenger hunt clues, and turn in your card for a chance to win a giveaway.

๐Ÿ† There will also be a Costume Contest for ages 0โ€“18 at the Mackinaw Fire Station! Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for Best Individual Costume, along with prizes for Scariest, Most Creative and Cutest.

๐ŸŽƒ LOCAL BUSINESSES โ€” WE WANT YOU TO BE PART OF BOOFEST TOO!

Businesses can enter our Business Pumpkin Decorating Contest by decorating one pumpkin. Pumpkins need to be dropped off at the Village Office by 3:00 PM on Friday, October 30 and will be displayed at the Community Center on Halloween night for everyone to vote on. The business receiving the most votes will be named the People's Choice!

๐Ÿฌ Businesses are also invited to help us make BooFest extra sweet by placing a candy bucket, business information, or other fun items at the Mackinaw Fire Department during BooFest Night. It's a simple way to join in the fun and help make Halloween special for our community.

๐Ÿ™‹ And we still need volunteers! If you'd like to volunteer for BooFest or help with the Costume Parade, call the Village Office at (309) 359-5821. The more people we have helping, the better the night will be!

We can't wait to see everyone out and about in Mackinaw! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป๐Ÿฌ

Please share this post and help us get the word out โ€” and don't forget to invite your family and friends!

Johanna Martinson has obtained a solicitors permit for the Village of Mackinaw until August 18, 2026. She will be going around the village to discuss the educational tools/books she has for purchase from Southwestern Advantage. She asked that we post her picture here so the community knows she has a permit.
