GAB! Instructional Programs
The GAB education program is fully accredited by SACS (K-12). The school year, like other public schools in the state, has 180 days. Certified teachers for the visually impaired provide students with a quality education. GAB utilizes a combination of two curricula, the GA Performance Standards (GPS) and the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC), to meet the state requirements as well as the individualized needs of our students. Expanded Core Curriculum
The ECC is designed to go beyond the core academic components. ECC addresses the essential areas and experiences that are unique to persons with visual impairments. The areas addressed include compensatory skills (such as Braille and tactile graphics), assistive technology, Orientation and Mobility (O & M), social interaction skills, independent living skills, recreation/leisure skills, career education, visual/sensory efficiency skills, and self determination skills. Short term placement options are also available to provide students time to learn ECC skills and return to their local school system. GAB Transition Program
This program results from the recognition of the need for our school to "bridge the gap" between students GAB lives and their lives once they leave us. The Transition Program provides graduating students with sufficient, appropriate, and timely learning opportunities, such as ECC training, Vocational Rehabilitation evaluations, job training, and career education. There is also a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor onsite.

Congratulations to Berkley, Grounds for Growth’s Employee of the Month for September!
New to the program this year, Berkley has quickly become a valuable member of the Grounds for Growth team. She has demonstrated strong growth in money management and customer service while working the rolling cart and taking phone orders. She has also done an excellent job learning to safely and hygienically prepare menu items, including bagels and a variety of drinks for GAB staff.
Congratulations, Berkley! We are proud of your growth and look forward to supporting your continued success through GAB’s Insight Academy programming.☕️👏🏽💙Georgia Academy for the Blind - GAB

Jeremiah won The Right Stuff Award this year at Space Camp for Advanced Academy. The Right Stuff Award is the highest and most prestigious individual honor given. It is presented to a single outstanding trainee each week who goes above and beyond in demonstrating exceptional leadership, teamwork, enthusiasm, and integrity. Recipients are nominated and chosen by camp staff because they actively boost their entire team's experience, exhibit sound judgment, and embody the courage and curiosity of early space explorers. The last time a GAB student won the award was in 2015.💙🤩

The Space Camp for Interested Visually Impaired Students (SCI-VIS) program recently hosted more than 160 blind and visually impaired students from 24 states, Puerto Rico, and five countries at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Last week two of our Science Teachers, Dr. Bennett & Mrs. Cheryl Moore, took 3 of our GAB Highschool students to Alabama for this incredible opportunity🚀💙
