Fostering ISN’T scary! What’s scary is the possibility of a foster youth not getting to experience Halloween fun!

Many children in foster care haven’t gotten the opportunity to experience trick-or-treating, dressing up in a fun costume, or watching Halloween movies with loved ones. You have the chance to give them these firsts, and many more!

Pride in Every Home: Leading With Care...

This June, as we celebrate Pride Month, NECCO is proud to uplift the voices of foster parents like Bo—who remind us what truly matters. For Bo, fostering isn’t about recognition or reward. It starts with a simple, powerful intention: showing up for children who need support, stability, and care.

At NECCO, we believe every child deserves to be seen, supported, and celebrated for who they are. This Pride Month and beyond, we honor the families who lead with compassion and create affirming spaces where all youth can thrive.

Love Shows Up in Small Ways!

This June, as we celebrate Pride Month, NECCO is recognizing the real, everyday moments that make fostering so meaningful. Foster parent Bo shares an honest truth—there are times when the journey feels challenging, when frustration creeps in, and you start to question if you’re the right fit. But then, something shifts.

“You will reach a point… where you ask yourself, is this right for me? Then the kids are going to do something super amazing for you… maybe something silly like clean their room, or they’ll draw you a picture… and it says ‘Daddy’ with a heart on it… Then you’re done. You’re locked in.”

It’s those small, powerful moments of connection and trust that create lasting bonds. This Pride Month and beyond, Necco celebrates foster families who show up with patience, resilience, and open hearts—creating spaces where every child feels seen, safe, and loved.

Her Family. Her Kids. Her Home. Deborah’s Lasting Impact.

Deborah reflects on how fostering transformed her life — from everyday routines to trips filled with joy, like taking children to Disney World just to watch their faces light up.

Her family embraced the kids as their own, often calling to check in with “How are the boys?” As a single parent, Deborah created a home rooted in love, structure, and belonging. She talked to each child with the same care she gave her own, guiding them through mistakes and reminding them they were safe. “My home is their home,” she said — a place where every child knew they were welcomed, cared for, and truly seen.

Six Homes Later… He Finally Opened Up With Deborah

Deborah shares what made her home so special: when a child came through her door, she treated them exactly like her own. They ate the same meals, sat at the same table, and talked through expectations just as she did with the two boys she raised.

She recalls caring for a young man who had already been through six different homes and spoke very little at first. With patience — and steady support from Mo, her NECCO case manager — she watched him slowly open up, talk, and smile again. For Deborah, those moments were everything. They reminded her that the love she poured into fostering was truly changing a child’s life.

Honoring Deborah’s Legacy: “In My Home, You’re Family.”

Deborah was the kind of foster parent who made every child feel like they belonged the moment they walked through her door. In this interview, recorded shortly before her passing, she reflects on her journey into fostering after seeing a sign at her church and feeling a gentle nudge from her sister. From that first phone call to NECCO, she poured her whole heart into creating a loving, steady home for children who had been through more than most adults. “When they’re in my house, they’re my kids,” she said — and she meant it. They ate together, talked through life together, and slowly, trust returned. Even the quietest children found their smiles again.

Fostering changed Deborah's life, and she changed theirs right back. This video now stands as a tribute to a remarkable woman whose home was always a soft place to land, and whose legacy lives on in every child she loved like her own.
