HOMECOMING PARADE SAFETY

We are so excited to celebrate the Homecoming Parade downtown today at 3:00 p.m.! Here are some tips to help keep everyone safe at this year's Homecoming Parade.

⚠️ Key Safety Reminders:

Watch the little ones: The excitement is real, but please keep a very close eye on small children near the streets.

Candy Safety: We all love the candy, but please be careful around the parade floats. Keep a safe distance from floats and other moving vehicles, tractors, horses, etc.

Weather: Bundle up, Tigers! It is going to be chilly out there this afternoon! Wear a jacket, hat, or gloves to stay warm while enjoying the parade!

🚧 Traffic Note: Barricades and officers from the Macon, MO Police Department along with deputies from the Macon County, Missouri Sheriff's Office, will be positioned along the main downtown loop to secure the parade route. Please plan ahead, expect delays, and drive extra carefully around areas with heavy pedestrian traffic.

The parade route will close completely at 2:30 p.m.

No parking will be allowed on Union Street between Rutherford Street and Rubey Street. This section must remain clear as the designated emergency route.

Let's make this a fun, warm, and safe Homecoming for everyone!

I will be assisting with the parade route, so if you see me, don't hesitate to say hi! And as always, "Let's Go Tigers!"

Senior night activities start at approximately 6:20 p.m., with kickoff for the game at 7 p.m.

🎉 BRAND NEW FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR! 💻🐅

Macon Tiger Families, I am excited to share something completely new for our community! Our webpage designer has been working hard behind the scenes and has officially built a dedicated School Resource Officer page on the district website.

They set up some really neat, interactive features that make it easier than ever for parents and students to stay connected, informed, and safe:

• The Officer Profile Hub: A breakdown of the specialized training I bring to our schools every day (like D.A.R.E. and emergency medical response).

• The Parent Resource Vault: Direct, easy access to incredible digital safety tools. They integrated NetSmartz for internet safety, guides on protecting kids from online exploitation (Take It Down), and safety campaigns like MoDOT's Buckle Up, Phone Down.

• Direct Student Safety Tools: Quick, confidential links for students or parents to access Courage to Report or the Missouri 988 Crisis Hotline instantly.

A huge thank you to our school web designer for setting this up so beautifully! Please take a minute to check it out, bookmark it, and explore the new tools.

Students in Mr. Anderson’s 8th-grade Social Studies class recently got a firsthand lesson in civics and local government!

As part of the lesson, students explored the history of the county sheriff, learned how sheriffs are elected to office, and examined the differences between law enforcement agencies and the duties they perform.

Deputy Noyes, our School Resource Officer, partnered with Mr. Anderson for the lesson, sharing his experience and expertise to help bring the topic to life. Students also had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A with Deputy Noyes and ask questions about law enforcement and the role of the sheriff’s office.

A big thank you to Deputy Noyes for helping give our students a real-world look at local government and public service!

On Friday, October 2nd, Mr. Anderson and I teamed up to deliver a special presentation to his U.S. History & Civics classes! We had a blast co-teaching and breaking down how local government and law enforcement work together.

We kicked off the class with a bell-ringer challenging students to guess where the word “Sheriff” comes from. From there, we traced a line all the way from the ancient English “Shire-Reeve” to colonial times, and right into our modern roles here at the Macon County Sheriff's Office.

We jumped into some great civics concepts, talking about Popular Sovereignty (how the power belongs to the people!) and the Rule of Law (the reminder that the law applies to everyone equally). We also discussed what sets a Sheriff's Office apart from a Police Department, highlighting how a Sheriff is directly accountable to county voters.
As their School Resource Officer, I really wanted to highlight the N.A.S.R.O. Triad Concept. An SRO is so much more than just an officer in a building—we operate as a Law Enforcement Officer, a Public Safety Educator, and a Mentor to help keep our schools safe and build lasting relationships.

A huge thank you to Mr. Anderson for tag-teaming this lesson with me, and to all the students for their awesome participation!

National Su***de Prevention Month

September is National Su***de Prevention Month—a time to remind our community that a conversation can matter, support is available, and no one has to face a difficult moment alone.

Tonight, we had the opportunity to join our community health liaison at the football game to spread awareness about the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and help make sure people know where they can turn when they need support.

Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Whether you’re struggling yourself or concerned about someone you care about, reaching out can be an important first step.

Let’s continue looking out for one another, checking in on the people around us, and making sure no one feels like they have to go through a difficult time alone.

You matter. Your life matters. Help is available.

988 — Call. Text. Chat.

This afternoon I had the privilege of speaking to Mrs. Farrington's Career Strategies class, and today I brought some backup. Two fellow Deputies from the Macon County Sheriff's Office joined me, and we spoke about our different roles in law enforcement. We talked about what it takes to wear the badge, explored the patrol cars, and checked out our various equipment. I think the class also really enjoyed watching me get zapped by a taser during my training.

I walked away with this beautiful, personalized thank-you letter from the class.

Sharing what we do and building trust with our students is, to me, one of the best parts of being a School Resource Officer.

Thank you for allowing me to come and speak with the class.

Edit: Pictures attached were taken by Mrs. Farrington and posted in comments so I added them to the post.
