🚧 DOWNTOWN MADERA CONSTRUCTION UPDATE | SR-145

Construction continues along State Route 145 (Yosemite Avenue), with crews making progress on roadway improvements, sidewalks, curb ramps, and infrastructure upgrades throughout the project area.

Here's the latest from Caltrans:

📍 Downtown | E Street to Lake Street: Roadway demolition is scheduled to begin this week, followed by grading and paving. Crews are also completing curb and gutter improvements and installing infrastructure for new decorative lighting and landscaping. Weather permitting, paving in the Downtown Segment could be completed by the end of December.

Additional information:

• Traffic Changes: Temporary K-rail remains in place along the west side of Yosemite Avenue, with traffic shifted to the east side. Temporary pavement striping has been refreshed to improve visibility.

• Upcoming Construction Shift: Crews anticipate shifting construction to the opposite side of the roadway around mid- to late November.

• To accelerate progress, the contractor is planning to bring back a second night crew for ongoing work.

📍 North | North of High Street: Six curb ramps have been reconstructed. Roadway grinding and paving will follow work in the Downtown Segment.

📍 South | Avenue 13 to Lewis Street: Northbound lanes are fully open following sidewalk, driveway, and curb ramp improvements. Work continues along the southbound side and is expected to take several more weeks.

📍 Mid | Olive Avenue to Yosemite Avenue: Approximately nine curb ramps have been prepared for demolition. Additional work will follow construction activities in the South Segment.

đźš— Traffic & Business Access Reminders:

Traffic patterns and lane configurations may change as construction progresses. Please slow down, follow posted signs, and use caution around construction crews.

Downtown businesses remain OPEN during construction! Public parking and access from surrounding side streets remain available. Thank you for continuing to support our local businesses throughout these improvements.

We appreciate everyone's patience as Caltrans continues working toward a safer, more accessible Downtown Madera.

The holiday season is just around the corner, and having extra support can make a meaningful difference for families in our community.

Thanks to $250,000 in state funding secured by Assemblywoman Esmeralda Soria, the Madera County Food Bank will have additional resources to provide food assistance to those who need it most.

Assemblywoman Soria presented a check to the Food Bank as part of a $1.5 million investment in food security efforts across the Central Valley. The funding will help the organization continue serving local families, including providing holiday meals and other food essentials.

We want to thank Assemblywoman Soria for her continued advocacy for Madera and her efforts to secure funding that directly benefits our community. We also recognize Madera County Food Bank for their dedicated work providing food assistance to local residents.

The City of Madera is aware of reports of increased federal immigration enforcement activity within the community and recognizes that these reports may raise questions and concerns among residents. We want to provide clear and accurate information regarding the City's role and responsibilities.

The City is subject to California law, including the California Values Act (Senate Bill 54), which places limitations on the use of state and local law enforcement resources for federal immigration enforcement. Consistent with these requirements, the City does not participate in federal civil immigration enforcement and does not share information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), unless required by applicable law.

In March 2025, the City Council adopted a resolution designating Madera as a Welcoming City. The resolution reaffirmed the City's commitment to protecting and serving all residents, as authorized by law, and emphasized that the Madera Police Department's primary responsibility is maintaining public safety and enforcing local law, rather than carrying out federal immigration enforcement.

Residents are encouraged to continue contacting the Madera Police Department when they are victims of a crime, need assistance, or have public safety concerns. Immigration status should not discourage anyone from reporting a crime or seeking help from local law enforcement.

The City appreciates the questions and concerns expressed by residents and remains committed to providing accurate information, maintaining public safety, and serving all members of the Madera community with fairness and respect.
