❤️💙 Shine a Light on Someone Making a Difference: Nominate Them for a Pride Award!

MMSD is at its best when students and staff are proud to be part of our schools and committed to building a strong future for our district.

The Pride Award celebrates students and staff who serve as ambassadors for MMSD and help shape a strong future for our schools and community. They show up, speak up and make a difference. 🌟

Know someone who embodies MMSD pride? Nominate them!

📅 Pride Award nomination deadline: Nov. 9

Each month, one staff member and students will be recognized at a Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education regular meeting, with honorees also celebrated at an end-of-year celebration.

Help us shine a light on the people who champion MMSD and inspire others to believe in what’s possible.

👉 Submit a nomination and celebrate someone who makes MMSD stronger!

We were excited to welcome the City of Madison Fire Department to Shorewood Hills today for a special Fire Prevention Month visit!

Our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students learned that "Safe Charging is a Superpower" through an interactive morning featuring firefighter gear demonstrations, safety videos, and an exciting obstacle course.

Thank you, MFD, for spending the morning with us and equipping our youngest learners with the knowledge they need to stay safe. 🚒⚡

🦈Shorewood Staff Spotlight!

Say hello to Mr. Steffan, our Head Custodian who has been a vital part of Shorewood for 8 years! For him, the absolute best part of the job is the community feeling that makes our school feel like a second home. He chose his career because he loves cleaning, chatting with people, and working around kids!

* Memorable Moment: Playing basketball and soccer with our students.
* Outside of School: He stays active by going to the gym and riding his bike and hiking with his daughter. He also loves playing video games and watching movies, especially the new Spider-Man movie!
* Local Love: Smokey Jon’s BBQ.

Since 4K went full days, students have the opportunity to participate in specials!

Our art teacher Ms. Bailey stopped by today to make tissue paper art using the first letter in names. Coloring, painting with water, and using tissue paper are some of 4K’s favorite art activities! 🎨🖌️

Our third grade students had an incredible opportunity to visit two beautiful Teejop art installations located at The Arboretum and Merrill Spring Park today!

The Teejop Community Art Project promotes learning and awareness of the over 14,000-year human story of Teejop (Four Lakes) through public art placed in locations important to the Hoocąk (Ho-Chunk) people. These projects explore the past and present relationship of the Hoocąk people to Teejop!

During their visit to the UW-Madison Arboretum, the 3rd graders engaged in a quiet, reflective walk along the path to view Hazac Mąą by Melanie Tallmadge Sainz and Lightning the Earth New Rider, as well as Tsé’ Bahane’ by Dakota Mace. They learned how this sacred land has sustained the Wąąkšikra from time immemorial.

They also visited Merrill Springs Park to see Gene Delcourt’s Dugout at Merrill Spring, learning how the ancestors cherished and respected the springs, lakes, and rivers as living beings.

A huge THANK YOU to the MMSD’s Arts Department for their generous support in making this inspiring trip possible for our students!
