Please LIKE to join the WPPA as we extend our heartfelt thoughts and best wishes to Columbia County Sheriff Roger Brandner and his wife, Jennifer, as they recover from serious injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident earlier this week.

We are grateful to the first responders, medical personnel, and everyone who assisted the Brandners following the accident.

On behalf of the WPPA and the law enforcement professionals we represent throughout Wisconsin, we wish Roger and Jennifer a full and speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with them and their family during this difficult time.

Sheriff Roger Brandner and his wife, Jennifer, were returning from a church celebration for their grandson when the incident occurred Sunday afternoon.

🚨 **The WPPA's 2026 Legislative Report Card & Election Endorsements Are Here!**

Since 2006, the WPPA has published its biennial Legislative Report Card, providing an objective, nonpartisan assessment of Wisconsin lawmakers' records on issues important to the state's law enforcement community.

In addition to evaluating the actions of legislators during the 2025–26 session, we've also announced:

🏆 Our **2026 Legislators of the Year**

⭐ Our **Law Enforcement Honor Roll**

🗳️ Our **endorsements for the November 3 general election**

With Election Day approaching, we encourage our members and the public to review the results and learn more about where Wisconsin's lawmakers stand on issues affecting law enforcement and public safety.

Today’s statement by the Interim Independent Police Monitor in Madison demands a brief response….

The allegation that “the police union had the judge switched” on a restraining order proceeding is false as it relates to either the WPPA or the MPPOA. The unions did not arrange or procure a change of judge in the matter. An allegation that the union manipulated a court proceeding requires evidence.

Similarly, a detective’s former service as the president of a union not affiliated with the WPPA does not establish that an investigation is being directed by “the union.”

The WPPA is responsible for its own statements and actions. Public officials should be held to that same standard. Questions about an official’s conduct deserve factual answers, and anyone demanding accountability should be willing to provide them.

The WPPA welcomes the proposal to accelerate the deployment of body-worn cameras for Madison police officers.

We have long supported this important technology because it can preserve critical evidence, provide a more complete account of police interactions, and protect both officers and the public. We appreciate the Madison Community Foundation’s generous support and encourage the Common Council to approve a responsible, sustainable program with clear policies, proper training, appropriate privacy protections, and adequate staffing.

Madison’s officers and the community should not have to wait any longer for this valuable public-safety tool.

Across Wisconsin and the country, body-camera use is near-universal among large law enforcement agencies. But, in Madison, the only officers who wear them are on the SWAT team or motorcycle unit.

An important point of clarification:

Commentary concerning the Corey Ruiz investigation in Madison has repeatedly suggested that police unions helped elect the Dane County District Attorney and that this political relationship may influence charging decisions.

That assertion has no factual basis. Neither the WPPA nor the Madison Professional Police Officers Association has endorsed Ismael Ozanne or contributed organizational funds to his campaigns.

Charging decisions in this case or any other should be evaluated based on the evidence and applicable law. Public discussion of this important matter should likewise be grounded in accurate facts—not assumptions about political relationships that simply do not exist. Those that portray otherwise only hurt the public’s ability to have an informed and meaningful discourse.

Please join the WPPA in supporting Eau Claire Police Officer Skyler Klevgard, who suffered a serious leg injury in the line of duty and faces a lengthy recovery following surgery.

Skyler, his wife Sarah, and their three young children are navigating the added challenges and expenses that come with his recovery. A fundraiser established with the family’s approval will help ease those burdens.

If you are able, please consider donating. Sharing this post is another meaningful way to help show this officer and his family that their law enforcement family and community stand behind them.

💙 We’re wishing you strength and a full recovery, Skyler.

With every step, they’re reminded of the firsts.

They think of the first women who risked their reputations to serve — who showed why women belong in these uniforms.

With every step, they look to the future.

They think of the little girls who dream of becoming officers — the women who will wear these uniforms in the decades to come.

With every step, they know they are a team. They understand everything women can accomplish together.

Thank you to all the women who call MPD home. You are brave, capable, kind and make our community a better place.

Happy National Police Woman Day!

Today, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001, and honor the extraordinary courage and sacrifice of the first responders who ran toward danger to save others.

We also remember those who have suffered and died in the years since because of their service at Ground Zero.

Twenty-five years later, we remain united in remembrance. We will never forget.
