Need a place to stay cool during the heat wave?

It's important to be prepared for a power outage, especially during extremely hot weather. Although our lineworkers typically restore power on average in half an hour, it’s crucial to know where to go if repairs take longer.

Dane County Park Commission met tonight (and stayed dry under one of the solar shelters) at the Heritage Center.

We saw an incredible rainbow and earlier today Dane County Parks formally received the donation of a Ho-Chunk dugout canoe crafted by Bill Quackenbush, soon to retire from his role as Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Ho-Chunk Nation. The canoe was made from a cottonwood tree removed from McDaniel Park during construction of the Lower Yahara River Trail.

Serving with and learning from Bill Lunney on the Dane County Parks Commission and in life is something I'll treasure forever.

We shared a love of the outdoors, local government, public service, and an admiration of Anson Dorrance and the UNC Women's soccer program. Bill loved that I coach and asked after my teams every time I saw him.

Bill, with Judie by his side of course, was a force and he leaves an incredible legacy.

Dave Zweifel: During his 30 years on the Parks Commission, Bill Lunney quadrupled the size of Dane County's park space, making it one of the best park systems in the

Last week the Dane County Board recognized Youth Leadership Month for the month of February. I've had the privilege of serving with and serving as a mentor to some of our Youth Governance Program and it is awesome and refreshing to have the perspective of our county's young people at the table.

We need more young people involved in government - as elected officials, as staff, and on boards and commissions. As a high schooler I sat on numerous boards with our local school district. I was elected to public office for the first time at age 22. Engaging youth in our government and processes is personal and I am grateful we embody this in Dane County.

I always love meeting the new educational ambassadors at the Lussier Center! This is Bergamot, a domestic mini Rex rabbit.

Someone abandoned him at Brigham County Park, which is NOT okay. If you need to surrender a domestic animal there are resources that can help.
