I’ll leave you with this wholesome moment to end our week: Mrs. Leonard’s fifth grade class and Miss Topping’s first grade class enjoying a game of soccer together. We love when our fifth graders can serve as role models to our younger students.

🧠 We’re growing strong brains at Neck River!

This year, we’re beginning a schoolwide focus on executive functioning skills—the skills that help children manage their attention, emotions, impulses, and actions.

We’re going slowly and focusing on one skill at a time. First up? The skill of INHIBIT: the ability to STOP 🛑 and THINK 💭 before we act.

At school, students will practice pausing before reacting, interrupting, grabbing, calling out, or making an impulsive choice.

🏠 Families can help at home by using the same simple language: “STOP and THINK. What’s the best choice?”

These skills take practice, and we’re excited to build them together! 💚🧠

Why do some volcanoes explode? Our fourth graders can tell you!

Things got a little bubbly this week. Our students used straws to blow bubbles in both thick and thin “lava” to see which type would explode and ooze.

Hands-on science + lots of curious minds = a great day of learning in fourth grade!

[Video Description: A fast-paced photo montage of fourth-grade students working in pairs at their science lab desks. The photos show students smiling as they mix liquids of different thicknesses in plastic cups, use straws to blow bubbles into the mixtures to test trapped gas, and write down observations in their science journals.]

Our Read-a-Thon starts TODAY!

From now through September 25th, we’re challenging our Neck River students to get reading! Not sure what to read or looking for a fun new spot to read? Don’t worry, we’ve got plenty of ideas coming your way!

Help us foster a love of reading while raising money to support our amazing PTO. Let’s get reading, Neck River!
