Spooky season is in full swing here in Madison! 🎃

From the spiders that have taken over City Hall once again to the Halloween Lighted Walkway at Lamplighter Park, where Halloween creatures glow after dark, and the orange lights lining Main Street, there’s plenty of Halloween spirit around town!

A huge THANK YOU to our City Street Department for all their hard work in keeping Madison looking festive throughout the year!

And there’s still more fun to come! Madison Parks and Recreation will host its annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 31, from 11 AM to 2 PM at Heritage Park and Trailhead (corner of Vaughn and Vernon). Enjoy seasonal activities, tasty treats, a hayride, bonfires with s’mores and hot dogs, a giant slide, and entertainment for all ages.

With the festival falling on Halloween, it’s a great way to kick off the day before heading out for an evening of trick-or-treating! Traditional trick-or-treating will take place from 6 to 8 PM on Saturday, October 31. As a friendly reminder, please trick-or-treat only during designated hours and at homes with a porch light on.

There’s plenty to see and do this October! Find more information on Halloween in Madison at madison-in.gov/halloween.

CITY OF MADISON DESIGNATED AS AMERICAN DISCOVERY TRAIL TOWN | The City of Madison has been designated an American Discovery Trail (ADT) Trail Town by the American Discovery Trail Society, recognizing Madison as a community that supports and welcomes hikers, bicyclists, and other non-motorized trail users.

The American Discovery Trail is a 6,800-mile, multi-use trail stretching across 15 states from coast to coast. The route connects communities, parks, public lands, and other scenic, historic, and cultural destinations, offering opportunities to hike, bike, and ride horseback across the country.

Trail Towns are communities on or near the American Discovery Trail that support the trail and provide a welcoming experience for travelers. The American Discovery Trail Society and its Trail Town Committee recently reviewed the City of Madison’s application and approved the designation.

To celebrate, the City of Madison, in collaboration with Visit Madison Indiana (VMI), Clifty Falls State Park, and the American Discovery Trail Society, will host an event Monday, October 19, at 9 AM. Mayor Bob Courtney will read a proclamation recognizing Madison as an ADT Trail Town.

Following the proclamation, Mayor Courtney will walk along a portion of the American Discovery Trail on Vaughn Drive to Riverview Campground. Community members are invited to join the relay and celebrate Madison’s connection to the American Discovery Trail. Find more details on the City of Madison page under the “events” category.

Madison’s designation also highlights the City’s continued investment in trail connectivity. The Madison Connector Trail System, including the Clifty Connector Trail, connects downtown Madison with surrounding outdoor destinations. The Clifty Connector begins at the Heritage Trail, crosses Crooked Creek, and extends west to the south entrance of Clifty Falls State Park, providing a convenient connection for bicyclists, walkers, and hikers.

“Madison is proud to be recognized as an American Discovery Trail Town and to be part of a trail that connects communities across the country,” said Mayor Bob Courtney. “This designation highlights the importance of our trail system and the connections it provides for residents and visitors to enjoy Madison’s parks, natural areas, and historic community.”

Anyone interested in participating in the American Discovery Trail 250 Relay can register at www.discoverytrail.org. The City of Madison invites residents to join Mayor Courtney on October 19 as the community celebrates this new designation and helps continue the relay across America.

What a special morning at City Hall! Mayor Bob Courtney had the honor of officiating the marriage of Tristan and Taylor.

It was a pleasure to be a small part of their special day and celebrate this milestone with them. As Tristan begins his next chapter serving our country in the U.S. Navy, we’d also like to thank him for his service and dedication.

From Mayor Courtney and City staff, congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish you both all the best.
