This year, Week Without Driving included two Walk + Roll Audits led by AARP Wisconsin!

We explored local neighborhoods together, looking at what’s working and what could make getting around easier and safer. What we found can help communities decide where improvements are needed and how to spend future funding.

Want to try this in your own neighborhood? You can do a walk audit any time of year and share what you find with your community leaders. Find AARP’s free resources in the comments. 👇

As part of a national Week Without Driving initiative, planners and advocates say local communities can take many steps to become more pedestrian-friendly.

Way to go, Village of DeForest! 👏 This is something we hear a lot during Week Without Driving: it’s not just the time it takes to get somewhere, but the time spent figuring out how to get there, too!

Thanks, Brandon, for giving it a try and sharing what went into your day!

The RoundTrip Smart Trips Challenge was a success! Throughout September, we asked people across Dane County to swap solo car trips for biking, riding the bus, carpooling, walking and rolling.

This was our largest fall challenge yet! Together, participants avoided over 20 tons of CO₂ emissions—about the same as taking five gas-powered passenger vehicles off the road for an entire year.

Here’s a little look back at the week! We hope it gave you a chance to try something new and better understand what getting around is like for the 30–40% of people in Dane County who don’t drive.
