The Madison Police Department is proud to recognize Officer Suraci, Officer Rauccio, and Noah White for their lifesaving actions.

On September 29, 2026, Officer Suraci was dispatched to a residence in Madison for a possible cardiac arrest. While officers were responding, Noah White immediately began performing CPR on his father, John. Upon arrival, Officer Suraci quickly applied his department-issued AED and delivered a shock as instructed by the device. Madison Ambulance then arrived on scene and took over care. Thanks to Noah’s quick actions, Officer Suraci’s response, and the care provided by @ Madison Emergency Medical Services, John survived and was with us today for these photos.

Earlier that month, on September 11, 2026, Officer Rauccio was also dispatched to a residence in Madison where he utilized his department-issued AED and successfully helped save another resident.

We are incredibly proud of Officer Suraci and Officer Rauccio for their professionalism and quick action, and we commend Noah White for stepping in and starting CPR when every second counted.

We would also like to thank Defibtech for their partnership and support, which helps us continue providing our officers with the equipment needed to protect and serve our community.

On Sunday, September 27, 2026, at approximately 6:50 p.m., the Madison Police Department received a report of an individual who was possibly on the outside of the protective fencing of an overpass directly above Interstate 95.

Officers responded and made contact with the individual, who spoke about several difficulties she was experiencing. Due to the immediate safety concerns, Interstate 95 was temporarily shut down while officers worked to safely resolve the situation.

Officer LaChance remained with the individual and spoke with her for approximately 10 minutes, working to keep her calm and engaged. Her Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training played an important role in the response, providing her with de-escalation techniques and communication skills designed to assist individuals experiencing a crisis.

Officer LaChance did a phenomenal job throughout this incident. Her patience, compassion, and ability to remain calm under extremely difficult circumstances played a pivotal role in achieving a safe outcome.

With the assistance of the Madison Hose Fire Department, the individual was successfully and safely brought back to the ground and connected with appropriate care.

We are grateful for the professionalism, patience, and compassion demonstrated by everyone involved, and we thank our partners at Connecticut State Police-Troop F Westbrook and the Madison Hose Co. No. 1 and Madison Emergency Medical Services for their assistance.

Incidents like this highlight the importance of crisis intervention training, teamwork, and a coordinated public safety response.

A incoming nor'easter is expected to impact Madison and the surrounding areas this weekend, beginning Friday afternoon (9/25) and lasting through Sunday (9/27). A Wind Advisory will be in effect beginning Friday at 12:00PM.

At this time, the worst of the storm is expected to hit Friday night into Saturday, with heavy rainfall and projected northeast wind gusts of 45-60MPH. Power outages and moderate coastal flooding are expected.

There is still uncertainty on the track of this storm and it's potential impacts-- confidence should slowly improve over the next 24 hours as the storm continues to develop. The Town is closely monitoring the storm, and will issue updates as additional information becomes available.

Residents can stay prepared for possible storm impacts by continuing to monitor the weather, and by considering the following preparedness tips:

- Secure any items that may be affected by strong wind
- Always treat downed wires as if they are live and dangerous; do not approach or touch them
- Fully charge devices ahead of the storm (including portable chargers/power banks), check flashlights, and plan for possible power issues
- In the event of power outages, be sure to run generators outdoors and away from windows and doors
- Do not drive around barricades or through flooded roads, as floodwaters can be deeper than expected; "turn around, don't drown"

All residents and local business owners are encouraged to sign up for Everbridge, the Town’s mass-communications system, especially with the incoming storm. Signing up for Town Alerts helps you stay informed and in turn, stay safe. To sign up, visit our website: https://www.madisonct.org/1073/Everbridge-Community-News-Updates-and-Em

Stay safe, Madison!
