Walk or Wheel Wednesday!

Each Wednesday this October, we will be highlighting some of the schools that have taken part in our Dane County Walk or Wheel (WOW) Challenge!

Lake View Elementary School in Madison was our first registrant and first winner of the challenge. They have been learning how to ride and shift gears through their school PE program, led by James Kersten. For their prize, they received 100 helmets for use in their bike education program. Mr. Kersten shares: “The new helmets have given me around 8 more minutes of actual teaching time during my 30 minute classes which is huge!”

Interested? Registration for the challenge is still open until Friday, 10/2!

📣 There’s still time to share your voice, the survey closes October 21st!

Thank you to everyone who participated in MMSD’s Building for the Future community input sessions. Your feedback is an important part of planning for the future of our schools. Your input will help inform future enrollment planning, attendance area reviews and how our schools align with Madison’s continued growth. No decisions have been made.

We encourage everyone to visit our website to watch a presentation recording, review the updated information and share feedback through our community survey.

⭐💙 Celebrating Lake View’s North Star Award Honorees! 💙⭐

The Northside Planning Council North Star Awards was a big reminder of how the many ways our people make us proud! We are so proud to celebrate three of our own North Star Award recipients: Ms. Furman, Mr. K, and fourth grader Knowledge! We also celebrated two incredible community partners and supporters of Lake View - Reverend David Hart of Sherman Church and Elaine Parton from Madison Northside Lions, who were recognized for their leadership and service to our community.

Each of these honorees reminds us of the many ways people can make a lasting difference.

📚 Ms. Furman brings the joy of reading to life for our students. She creates a library where children discover new worlds, see themselves in stories, and develop a love of reading that can last a lifetime. Her impact reaches far beyond the library, touching classrooms, colleagues, and the heart of our school community.

🚲🌳 Mr. K finds ways to make the outdoors more accessible, welcoming, and enriching for every student. Through his vision for our school forest, his work to bring bicycles to our students, and his commitment to inclusive outdoor spaces, he creates opportunities for children to explore, learn, build confidence, and experience the joy of discovery.

💙 Knowledge. one of our fourth graders, shows us that leadership has no age requirement. Her kindness, resilience, and willingness to help others, especially students who may be struggling or need extra support, are a beautiful example of the kind of community we strive to build. We are so proud of the compassion and leadership she brings to Lake View.

We are equally grateful to our two community partners whose leadership and service help make the Northside a stronger, more connected place for everyone. Our students and families benefit every day from people and organizations who believe in them and invest in their future.

At Lake View, we know that it takes a village to help children thrive. Friday night was a reminder of how fortunate we are to be surrounded by educators, students, and community partners who lead with heart, build meaningful relationships, and show up for one another to make the northside a great place to live, work, and play.

Congratulations to these five superstars! Thank you for everything you do for Lake View and our broader community. You make our Northside community brighter, stronger, and more connected. ⭐💙🦎
