Wisconsin LGBTQ History Project will soon debut a new documentary, "Beacons of Badgerland," celebrating eight individuals who made significant lifetime contributions to the LGBTQ community in Madison. Among the individuals honored is Bernie Hoes, who served as board president of CSW and has hosted our Community Change-Maker Awards for many years. The Beacons of Badgerland project is dedicated to Richard "Dick" Wagner (1943-2021), who was instrumental in the movement for LGBTQ equality in Wisconsin and who received the CSW Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously in 2022.

The documentary will debut in Madison and will be followed by a traveling exhibit. The local planning coalition includes representatives from two other CSW member nonprofits, OutReach LGBTQ Community Center and Fair Wisconsin. Stay tuned for future updates!

How do we introduce people to a growing network of nonprofits? Make it a game! We created a simple interactive matching board featuring the logos and names of our newest member nonprofits, giving visitors a hands-on way to discover the organizations in our network. Making those connections tangible sparked curiosity and conversation about the work happening across our communities.

From civil rights and immigration support to climate action and community resources, our 80 member nonprofits are making a difference in our communities every day.

Are you a State of Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin, City of Madison or Dane County employee? Through the Partners in Giving campaign, you can choose to donate to Community Shares of Wisconsin and support our 80 member nonprofits working to build a more just and sustainable future for everyone.

In the wake of the high-profile Cornell 7 sexual assault case, member nonprofit Dane County RCC has received dozens of new donations from community members looking to support survivors.

The increased attention highlights RCC’s broader work: providing free, confidential advocacy, therapy and forensic nurse exams while reaching thousands through education and outreach. Executive Director Dana Pellebon emphasizes that meaningful prevention means going beyond teaching people how to stay safe—it means addressing consent, body autonomy and preventing sexual violence in the first place.

"[The Sexual Violence Resource Center] is 100% confidential. We are not mandated reporters, and all of our services are free. It does not matter what part of the journey you are on, whether you were just assaulted or it has been decades. We are here to work with you on your goals and your needs, and more importantly, ensure that your rights are being taken care of and that your wishes are followed."
—RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center Executive Director Dana Pellebon

As Cornell’s assault case stays in the news and UW-Madison reports local assaults, the RCC Sexual Violence Resource Center sees more donations.

For more than 55 years, Community Shares of Wisconsin has been working to advance local social justice and environmental protection. Our 80 member nonprofits are leading efforts in Dane County and throughout Wisconsin to protect our rights, challenge injustice, and build a safe and sustainable future for all of us.

At a time when many organizations are under attack for advocating for diversity, equity, inclusion, sustainability, LGBTQ+ rights, and other social justice issues, our member nonprofits are standing strong.

You can support this work through your workplace giving campaign. Every contribution helps invest in nonprofits that are challenging systems, holding decision-makers accountable, and creating healthier, more just communities. Could your workplace be part of something like this?

Yesterday we were out at Middleton Chamber of Commerce's "Get Moving Middleton," and the energy was contagious. It was great to grab a table with Jane Simon and Melissa Castillo from Lake Ridge Bank, and to see our friends from Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin, who sponsored the event as they celebrate 50 years. Thanks to GHC's Tyler Haarklau for some genuinely inspiring words, too!

Both Lake Ridge Bank and GHC run workplace giving campaigns with us, and we're so grateful. When a workplace and its team give together, it funds real, lasting change right here in our community. đź’š
