Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day!

Today, we commemorate and appreciate the rich cultural tapestry of Indigenous people, who continue to make invaluable contributions to communities throughout the state.

Family farms are the heart of our rural communities and our identity as a state. When a farm goes to auction, a family tradition goes with it. Sometimes that’s a decision a family makes on their own, other times it's out of desperation. Bad Republican policies – like the illegal tariffs and skyrocketing fuel prices – could put hundreds of family farms out of business in the coming months.

Joel Greeno’s farm in Kendall is the latest example of the damage done by Republican politicians. To fuel his equipment this harvest, Joel incurred credit card debt, and creditors are now suing him. But he is far from the only one.

Trump’s war in Iran and reckless tariffs have nearly doubled diesel prices in much of our state. Every one of us pays for it at the pump and the grocery store.

We need to fight for the families and small businesses that make our state vibrant. I will do everything in my power to help our farmers and any Wisconsinite suffering as a result of the thoughtless actions of this authoritarian regime.

We do not live in a free society if Wisconsinites cannot get access to basic health care. Republican politicians are relentlessly attempting to pass abortion bans that criminalize doctors and block life-saving care. Despite the overwhelming majority of Wisconsinites wanting politicians to have no role in reproductive health decisions, Republican politicians can’t help themselves – they are hellbent on interfering in our most personal decisions. In the Senate, I will continue leading the fight for reproductive freedom.

Families across our state are paying more for groceries, rent and healthcare as profits for corporations soar. Meanwhile, 3 billionaires are attempting to buy Wisconsin’s election for Tom Tiffany – the very same backers who underwrote elections for Donald Trump and Ron Johnson. Last year, Wisconsinites rejected a similar effort by Elon Musk to buy a Supreme Court Seat.

The money being spent on elections is appalling – and it demonstrates why we need campaign finance reform. Next session, I will continue my work to end dark money in politics, pass public financing, and stop corporate interest from influencing our elections.

It’s too early to sign a lease for next fall!

I wrote a bill, with Rep. Brienne D. Brown, to let communities stop landlords from racing to get tenants to sign leases shortly after an original lease begins. Unregulated renewals make it harder to establish healthy, competitive housing markets, especially in campus towns around the state.

Our legislation would protect students and non-student tenants from this predatory practice.

The engineering and work they are doing at the Madison Metro Sewerage District is inspirational! Almost invisibly, the workers at MMSD are providing an amazing public service to all of us removing waste and impurities from our water to ensure that we can enjoy a more healthy society.

These public goods are an exhibition of what democracy makes possible. No matter how hard billionaires and the right try to profit off of public services, we must be steadfast in our commitment to great public services.

Thank you to Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District for recently hosting State Representative Alex Joers and me for a tour of all the important work you do for our community!

Too many young people struggle to afford tuition, let alone the rising cost to rent an apartment or for food with Trump’s reckless tariffs. We need to re-commit state dollars to higher education so that young people trying to climb the economic ladder aren’t forced to take out the equivalent of a mortgage just to pursue an education.

We must expand Bucky’s Tuition promise to every campus in the state so that more Wisconsin students can afford to pursue their dreams.
