Big Oak Child Care Center A nonprofit child care center located on Madison's East Side Big Oak is a small, not-for-profit, progressive childcare center on Madison’s east side.

Big Oak strives to provide a home-like atmosphere in a building that was converted from a private family home. The toddler programs are on the first floor and the preschool is upstairs. Though each program has separate agendas, occasionally activities are provided that all Big Oak children can participate in together. A child can enter Big Oak as a toddler and move into the preschool until they’re ready for kindergarten. The staff recognizes the need for consistency. The routines and schedules they provide incorporate activities that foster children’s interests and emerging skills while allowing children freedom of movement to provide a positive, empowering experience.

One of our Older Toddler children on our new front playground reading bench. Reyna loved reading - whenever anyone, especially children, spend time on her bench, we think of her.

We serve families and children everyday - and some days those are animal families and children.

It’s been the second year in a row that a duck has nested in the building’s vent next to us. A teacher noticed them come out of the playground. We put the babies in a crate and guided momma duck down to the Yahara River. They all got safely in the water!
