Today kicks off the Wisconsin Book Festival Fall Celebration as we ring in 25 years of connecting readers with authors for conversations that matter. From Thurs, Oct 15 to Sun, Oct 18, hear from more than 80 authors across 55+ events! All events are open to the public thanks to the support of Madison Public Library Foundation.

👀 Speaking of stories ➡️ while attending author talks at the Central Library be sure to visit the amazing quilt exhibition Recollections: The Stories That Stay by the Memory Collectors Storytelling Project (Ironer's Press). At the core of this quilt exhibition you'll find personal stories from a number of brilliant elders, caretakers and artists in our community. The visual and narrative details are endless, if you're into that kind of thing. 😉

Please tell us what you think of the show! Leave a message for the artists in the guest book or add a memory to the interactive wall in the 3rd floor gallery at Madison Public Library.

Aleida has a hypothesis: intentional limitations can spark new ideas, surprising connections, and entirely new worlds. Come lend your creativity to the experiment!

Join Bubbler Artist Aleida Hertel (whose work Passage is currently on view at the new Imagination Center Library!) for a hands-on collage workshop at Central Library. Participants will be given prompts, passages, and materials to create their own imaginative boats. Cut, layer, rearrange, and reflect on what you would bring aboard when embarking on a journey. What can you make from the pieces in front of you? How might working within a few limitations open up unexpected possibilities?

As Aleida prepares to lead a series of workshops this winter at our newest library location, she’s curious about how experimentation, iteration, and limitations can shape the collage process.

No registration needed, just drop-in! The workshop is designed for teens and adults ages (16+). Parents and caretakers are welcome to bring a child along if that makes it possible for them to participate.

Over the next few months, we've got a lot going on at Central Library! As many of you know, the Bubbler Room on ground floor (near the Mifflin Street entrance) is a wonderful spot for all ages to explore their creativity with ready-to-use art supplies and projects to engage with year-round. The Bubbler Room is typically open during regular open hours for Central Library, however, there are some large-scale events coming up over the next few months, as well as several scheduled school visits that the room will be in-use for. Here's a schedule of planned closed days for the Bubbler Room at Central Library this fall!

Preparing for a feature in Quiltfolk!!! What?!
Last weekend we welcomed Azuree and Trevor Holloway to Madison!
On Sunday they spent time with Rollections: The Stories That Stay exhibition at Central Library and captured the artists who are exhibiting pieces in the show.
It was an exciting and lively day as artists posed with their work in the gallery and gathered to sew, listen to music and share other projects in the community room next door.

The day prior Azuree and Trevor spent time at the Creators Cottage on Madison’s Southside (where the Memory Collector’s group meets) and heard from the women of Black Threads as well.

We are SOOO stoked that this incredible group of artists will be showcased in this beautiful and dynamic publication reaching a national (world-wide?) audience.

Quiltfolk Magazine is an ad-free quarterly print magazine that explores American quilt history, culture and the creative lives of modern quiltmakers. In our opinion their visual storytelling is top notch, they have continued to make an effort to broaden the visibility of quilt-makers who are expansive and often overlooked within the more traditional publications and narratives about quilts.

At the Madison Public Library you can find previous issues of Quiltfolk Magazine (2016-present) available through the MPL collection. Flip through them for the stunning photographs or read them cover to cover - you’re bound to be inspired and you may even find your new favorite quilter!

We will be sure to share THIS special issue featuring Memory Collectors Storytelling Project: Fighting Alzheimers with Art when it hits the shelves in the coming months.

Join us today Friday, September 25, at 4:30 p.m. for the PUBLIC DEDICATION of The Passage of Being, a new public art piece by artist Nate Page Nate Page at the Imagination Center at Reindahl Park (1814 Parkside Dr, Madison, WI 53704).

Administrated by the Madison Arts Commission with funds from the Percent for Art Fund and the Municipal Art Fund, the piece stands approximately 16 feet tall, a two-sided sculpture featuring colorful layered planes inspired by the national flags of prominent immigrant communities in the community directly surrounding this new library building. Its reflective side captures the surrounding park and activity, connecting the artwork, library, and landscape in all the ways we know this new community resource will.

This piece was selected by the Madison Art Commission and created through a community-centered process that included a survey of more than 1,200 residents and input from students at Sandburg Elementary School. The dedication will be part of the grand-opening ribbon-cutting celebration (starting at 3pm) for the new Imagination Center and park pavilion.

🎉 Come celebrate all weekend Friday 9/25 (3-8pm) and Saturday 9/26 (10am-4pm) for learning, gathering, creativity, and community and get to see The Passage of Being sculpture in person!!
