Today, the Department of Natural Resources and Governor Tony Evers rolled out two new grant programs to help communities tackle PFAs contamination. The $125 million PFAs Trust Fund, approved in the 2023-25 budget, funds the two grants. The funds were released earlier this year when my colleagues and I passed what is now 2025 Wisconsin Act 200 and 201.

All Wisconsinites should have safe, clean water, and as lawmakers, it’s on us to help those affected by PFAs. For more information about the requirements for either of the grant programs, please visit the links in the comments.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Yesterday, I was invited to attend a Wisconsin Women's Council panel discussion on domestic violence in rural Wisconsin. Critical funding for programs supporting survivors across our state is set to expire at the end of this year due to federal budget cuts. Programs like Housing First—a proven lifeline for women and children escaping abusive relationships—offer up to 18 months of rental assistance. Essential funding for these programs will now fall on the state at a time when budget decisions are already constrained by federal instability.

Thank you to the staff from the Office of Crime Victim Services, the Office of Violence Prevention, Embrace, and The Womens Community, Inc., for a compelling and difficult conversation about what is at stake and how we can prepare to continue this crucial work.
