🔥 Need a burn permit? There's now an easier way to get one!

Beginning TODAY, the Georgia Forestry Commission is offering a new online burn permit system, making it more convenient to obtain permits for eligible agricultural, land-clearing and silvicultural burns.

💻 Apply from your computer or phone.
⏰ Available daily from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
📅 Permits are issued for the current day only.

The new system follows the same local restrictions and safety requirements already in place. If burning isn't permitted in your area or for your burn category that day, the system will let you know.

One important note: Certified Prescribed Burn Managers requesting silvicultural permits must enter their certification number. Those without a number will be directed to contact GFC for assistance.

And remember, permits are not required for hand-piled natural vegetation, but Georgia's SSTAR safety requirements still apply.

For those curious why I-20 WB was shut down this morning, here you go. Early this morning MCFR was dispatched to a vehicle fire. E16 and BN 1 arrived on scene to find a well involved cargo trailer. Luckly the tractor trailer driver was able to disconnect from the trailer after pulling it into the right emergency lane. This action on the part of the driver assists in giving our firefighters a safer area to operate as well as reducing the chance of a subsequent accident due to blocking the road.

Last evening volunteer members from Fire Station 5 (Godfrey), Fire Station 8 (Bethany), and Fire Station 9 (Rutledge) attended task force training at Fire Station 10 on Mission Road. We have made significant strides in getting our classrooms up and running at the new training facility. Prior to all practical exercises, students attend a classroom session to discuss the principals and practices of the training topic for the evening, which last nights was ventilation. Captain Nik Cooper has done an exceptional job carrying this vision forward and our members really seem to appreciate the work being put in. We will keep on keeping on.

Early this morning your Morgan County Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1575 Lower Apalachee Road. On arrival Engine 16 and Battalion 1 found a well involved detached carriage house. Due to the extensive distance off of Lower Apalachee Road and advanced stage of the fire on arrival, additional stations were paged out for water tenders and manpower. Apparatus and volunteer firefighters from FS 1 Apalachee, FS 2 Central, FS 3 Bostwick, FS 4 Buckhead, FS 7 Clacks Chapel, FS 8 Bethany, and FS 12 West Road all responded and were able to establish water shuttle operations to support fire ground suppression efforts. I am thankful to serve with these dedicated men and women who train and work hard to serve this county.
