Dane County Land & Water Resources Department The official page of the Dane County Land & Water Resources Department. The Dane County Board established a permanent Lakes and Watershed Commission in 1988.

Through program, policy and plan development, community engagement, program implementation, education and water-related service projects, the Commission and the Office of Lakes and Watersheds work to protect and improve water quality, as well as the scenic, economic, recreational and environmental value of Dane County's water resources. We have a history of bringing people and organizations together from diverse backgrounds. Members of our community share solutions to a variety of challenges within the Watershed Network; such as water quality monitoring, identifying strategic partnerships, capacity building, volunteer coordination and more. Through the Dane County Watershed Network, organizations with a connection to lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands share information and learn from one another. The Dane County Watershed Network strives for the inclusion of of all water-related advocacy groups and partner organizations within the region. A more diverse, multi-faceted approach to collective engagement emphasizes the value in working together to improve both communities and watersheds across Dane County.

Our staff had a great time working with the Climate Champions Homeschool Explorer III series at our Lussier Family Heritage Center education facility last week! The group learned about how soil scientist Michelle and agronomist Kim work with soil to understand the impacts of climate change in Dane County.

Our next Explorer Series session starts November 30th. Learn more about this cool program and register at: https://www.lussierheritagecenter.com/Explorer-Series

Did you know that more than 1,000 gallons of rainwater runoff an 1800 ft2 rooftop during a 1โ€ storm? Thatโ€™s enough to fill more than 16 large bathtubs! Adding a rain garden or downspout garden to your yard can help that runoff soak into the ground and protect our local waterways. Get tips and design help at the Sept. Native Garden Learning Hub.
