TRAFFIC & ROADS
Officers made 56 traffic stops and engagements this week and issued 33 traffic summonses. We focused speed enforcement on Bullet Hole Road in response to complaints from local residents; radar clocked drivers at up to 50 mph in a 30 mph zone. Additional speed details ran on Union Valley Road, Long Pond Road and Crane Road. We also responded to 19 vehicle crashes, two of them involving deer. Deer are most active at dawn and dusk this time of year, so please slow down and use your high beams when the road is clear.
INCIDENTS OF NOTE
TUESDAY | Graffiti case closed
While on patrol, an officer spotted the man sought for spray-painting a Route 6 supermarket on Sept. 25. He was arrested for criminal mischief and released on an appearance ticket.
TUESDAY | E-moto crash, Watermelon Hill Road
Officers were on scene within minutes of a crash that left a young rider seriously injured. CPD was assisted by Mahopac FD, Carmel EMS, and PCSO. The rider was airlifted to a regional trauma center by Hackensack Meridian Health AirMed One. Our thanks to every first responder who answered that call.
WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY | Two unlicensed drivers arrested
Two drivers were arrested after Route 6 traffic stops. One had 13 license suspensions. The other was driving with a suspended registration and no insurance; that vehicle was impounded and its plates seized.
THURSDAY | Bank staff spot another prize scam
Alert employees at a Route 6 bank recognized that a customer was being targeted by a "you've won a prize" scam and called police. If you have to pay to collect a prize, it's a scam.
