It’s time for our local teen filmmakers to show off their horror films based on the movie challenge theme!

For those just finding out about it, We have extended the movie submission deadline to Friday, October 23 by 6:00 PM
All films must be submitted via flash drive.

The films will be shown on October 26 at 5:30 PM
All ages are welcome to come and view the films so come out and support our local filmmakers!

Calling all library kids ages 4 to 8! STEAM Family Storytime is back! Join us for a morning devoted to reading, creating, and exploring the wonderful world of math and science. Each story time includes a book pertaining to STEAM principles, followed by an engaging activity based around the book!

We're decking the walls of Mahopac Library's Third Floor Gallery with art that celebrates the beauty of Winter and the joys of the holidays.

Come celebrate with us and bring your artwork for Winter Light - the new group art show for adults ages 18+ to be held from mid November through the beginning of the New Year!

All adult artists are welcome to participate in Winter Light, including those who have previously exhibited artwork at MPL

Our Letters to Dewey program is off to a great start! 📬
Kids came in and paired up with teens to brainstorm and talk out what they would be putting in their letters for Dewey.

The program has also opened up to grades K-4 to allow younger children who miss Dewey, to send their letters too!

The leaves are changing, the days are getting cooler, and we'll be wearing cold weather gear before you know it.

As part of The Great Give Back, MPL is collecting winter weather accessories for those in need. You can help by participating in Mahopac Library’s “Share the Warmth” Great Give Back event.

Donate newly purchased hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves in children’s and adult sizes, for community members in need, and help someone stay warm during the cold winter months. Bring your donations to the MPL Lobby October 12th - October 26th

Let Books Be. Protect the Freedom to Read

BANNED BOOKS WEEK October 4 - October 10, 2026

Check out a book from one of the banned books displays on the first and second floors of MPL. Both displays have been filled with books that have been challenged. Read a banned book!

According to the ALA Office for Intellectual Freedom, thousands of unique book titles face challenges (formal attempts to restrict or remove materials) and bans every year. 4,235 unique titles were challenged in 2025, the second highest ever documented by ALA.
