The past few days proved to be an exceptionally busy stretch for the volunteer firefighters of Fire Rescue Company 1.
Wednesday began in the early morning hours with a mutual aid request to Sloatsburg New York for a working house fire. Company 1 responded with a full crew and upon arrival was immediately put to work assisting with fire suppression and overhaul operations. After approximately 2 hours, our crews were released and returned to the Township.
Later that morning, Rescue 1 responded to Franklin Turnpike for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment. Rescue 1's crew stabilized the vehicle and successfully extricated the patient, who was then transported by Mahwah EMS to an area hospital.
That evening at our weekly drill, Company 1 joined our colleagues from Mahwah EMS and Fire Company 3 for a joint training evolution focused on CPR operations for a downed firefighter. This specialized skill goes beyond standard CPR, requiring crews to properly remove a firefighter's SCBA and turnout gear while maintaining continuous care, a critical skill that could mean the difference in a true mayday situation.
Thursday and Friday brought several additional calls throughout the Township, including a small residential fire that was quickly extinguished by arriving crews before it could extend to the surrounding structure.
We would like to thank our dedicated volunteers who responded to each of these incidents, many of whom balanced their service with full-time jobs and family commitments throughout the week. Job well done by all.
