🐟💧DR. JEFFREY MARLOW - Marine microbiologist and explorer Dr. Jeffrey Marlow speaks about his perspective on the power and beauty of the deep sea on Wednesday, October 21, at the Malibu Library at 7 PM.

RSVP is required online at MalibuCity.org/Speakers.

In his first book, The Dark Frontier: Unlocking the Secrets of the Deep Sea. Dr. Marlow illuminates the ocean’s scientific marvels, including microbes that breathe metal and fish that withstand crushing pressures, as well as theories about how underwater habitats may have been the cradle of life on Earth. He will reveal the deep sea’s microbial universes, worlds within worlds that have opened new possibilities of survival in extreme environments.

Dr. Marlow captures the wonder and potential of the deep sea, teaching us lessons that help navigate the future not just for the remarkable creatures that live there but for those of us on the surface as well.

Dr. Marlow is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Boston University, where his lab studies the links between microbes and their surroundings in a range of extreme environments. He has led or participated in ten deep-sea research expeditions and worked on the science team of three of NASA's Mars rover missions. He has served as a science advisor at the United Nations’ negotiations for the High Seas Treaty and is a member of the National Academies of Sciences' New Voices leadership program. Additionally, he is a National Geographic Explorer and a fellow of The Explorers Club and the Royal Geographical Society.
