Students at Sugartown Elementary school spent the morning getting to know more about their local first responders. Members of both the Willistown Police Department and the Malvern Fire Company brought their vehicles to the school. The students took tours of the vehicles and had their questions answered about the daily operations of our local fire and police department. Thanks to the first responders who came through today to show the kids how they provide service to our Great Valley community!

Students in the National Art Honor Society spent Monday painting as a part of an event through PennDOT called “Paint the Plow”. Three groups of students spent the day painting a mural on a real PennDOT snowplow! The design was created by student Anna Xiao using the theme of the campaign “Snow means slow”. This plow will be used by PennDOT in our region, so keep an eye out for our Great Valley art on a snowy road near you this winter!

🌎💚 62 BAGS OF LITTER REMOVED — AND THESE CHESTER COUNTY STUDENTS ARE JUST GETTING STARTED!

What began with two students and a box of uneaten donuts has grown into a 40+ member environmental organization at Great Valley High School! 🌱

Founded by student Srida Sreejith, Go Green Great Valley is making a measurable difference in local parks.

👏 Look at what they've accomplished:

🗑️ 62 bags of litter collected from Millers Park and Exton Park.

⏰ An estimated 350–400 volunteer hours contributed.

🌿 Invasive plant removal along the Chester Valley Trail.

🌸 Approximately 25 students volunteered at the Philadelphia Flower Show.

🙌 About 30 students participated in another Millers Park cleanup on October 11!

♻️ NEXT UP: A recycling event with West Whiteland Township on November 14.

These students are proving that meaningful environmental change can start right in our own communities!

💬 What Chester County park or trail could use some extra attention?

Do you know a GVSD teacher, paraprofessional, administrative assistant, custodian, food service worker, transportation staff member, or other school professional who goes above and beyond?

Nominate them for the Chester County Champions of Education Awards and help us recognize the champions who make a difference in our schools and communities!

The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) is proud to launch the Chester County Champions of Education Awards, a countywide recognition program honoring exceptional teachers and non-instructional staff from all 12 Chester County public school districts, alongside their valued partner CCRES Educational and Behavioral Health Services. This initiative shines a spotlight on the dedication, passion, and service that help students thrive every day.

We’re proud to recognize our NHS chapter as a Chapter of Distinction! This national recognition highlights our commitment to leadership, service, and upholding the pillars of NHS through meaningful impact in our school and community.

Great Valley High School’s NHS chapter has shown how powerful it can be when young leaders channel their talents into meaningful service beyond tracking hours. In recent years, principal Dr. Heidi Capetola and adviser Dr. Paige Morabito launched a new challenge to shift the focus from volunteer hours to making an impact in our school and local community. Each year, the chapter officers seek input from the members and determine how the GVHS National Honor Society can amplify the great work other clubs and organizations do. For example, partnering with the Interact Club last year to support active Service Members and highlighting organizations that support Childhood Cancer Awareness in September this year.
