Saturday’s Owl Prowl at Okehocking Preserve was the perfect night for an unforgettable wildlife adventure! Dawn White from Indian Run Environmental Education Center LLC introduced us to three live non releasable owls—a screech owl, barred owl, and barn owl (pictured here is Mouse, the barn owl and Scarlett, a screech owl, along with a taxidermy of a great horned owl). Owls are unique members of the raptor family with physical traits built for stealth, silent flight, and low-light hunting.
After the presentation, we ventured into the dark woods along the green trail, playing a recording of screech owls at several points along the rail. We were lucky enough one screech owl answered back.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for this special night, and to IREEC for sharing their amazing owl ambassadors!
