📚🎨 Calling All Mullen Artists! 🎨📚

It's time to show off your creativity! We are excited to announce our Yearbook Cover Contest. Students are invited to design a cover that captures the spirit, memories, and excitement of our school year.

The winning design will be featured on the front cover of the 2026-2027 Mullen Elementary Yearbook! Entries are due by November 6. We can't wait to see the amazing artwork our students create!

Prince William County Public Schools shares student photos and videos to celebrate learning and showcase school events. Families do not need to complete this form unless they do not want their child’s photo, video, or likeness shared in school or division publications, including social media platforms.

📢 Attendance Matters at Mullen! 📢

At Mullen Elementary, we know that being present in school every healthy day helps students build strong academic habits, develop meaningful relationships, and make the most of every learning opportunity. We love having our students here learning, growing, and thriving with us!

As you know, chronic absenteeism continues to be a focus for our school, and we are working closely with families to improve attendance. Our goal is to reduce our school-wide chronic absenteeism rate to below 10%.

Please take a moment to review our current chronic absenteeism rates:

✅ Kindergarten: 20.6%
✅ 1st Grade: 18.2%
✅ 2nd Grade: 11.6%
✅ 3rd Grade: 7.1%
✅ 4th Grade: 6.8%
✅ 5th Grade: 8.7%

Fifth grade students recently met with our ITC, Ms. Phillips, to explore digital reading resources available through our library! 📚💻 Students learned how to use Sora to browse and check out ebooks and audiobooks to enjoy anytime, anywhere. They also discovered how to use Destiny Discover to search for books available in Mullen Elementary's library collection. These tools empower students to take ownership of their reading journeys and help foster a love of literacy both in and out of the classroom.

First grade students are exploring the IB PYP theme Who We Are with the central idea, "Choices reflect citizenship and community." As part of their HMH descriptive writing lessons, students took learning outdoors by using iPads to photograph the world around them. They will select a favorite image and use adjectives to write descriptive sentences, helping them strengthen their writing while reflecting on the community they see every day. 📸✏️
