Dearest Bakersville Community:
It is with a heavy heart that, after ten years as Principal at Bakersville Elementary School, I am informing you that I will be leaving at the end of this school year. This was a difficult decision, and I will miss the students and families greatly, but I feel it is time for a new chapter. With this, I will be joining Northwest Elementary School as Principal for the 2026-2027 school year. I plan on speaking to the children about it next week.
We will also begin interviewing for my successor next week. As part of this process, there will be a community forum where you are invited to ask questions of the candidates and share your feedback. I will send you that information as soon as I have the details so that you can plan to attend if you would like.
I want to thank you all for ten amazing and memorable years of collaboration and partnership. Please keep in touch and know that I am committed to finishing out the 2025-2026 school year stronger than ever.
Sincerely,
Mrs. D

We are so proud and thankful!! We appreciate Mrs Longo!
This month, we are proud to recognize Danielle Longo, Social Worker at Bakersville Elementary as our Hidden Gem. Danielle is a truly exceptional member of the Bakersville community whose impact is felt by every student, family, and staff member she connects with.
Danielle is a strong, steady force who works tirelessly to ensure that every child feels seen, heard, and valued. Whether she’s greeting students with a warm smile on a cold morning or sitting down with a student for snack, lunch, or a much-needed conversation, connection is her priority.
She is a bridge between school and home, helping families access opportunities and support while maintaining clear communication and trust. Her compassion, honesty, and dedication create a sense of belonging that strengthens her school community.
In difficult times, we often share the words of Mr. Rogers, and remind each other to “look for the helpers.” At Bakersville, Danielle is one of those helpers. She is a constant presence, a trusted resource, and a pillar of support for so many.
Perhaps the most powerful testament to her impact comes from our students themselves. When asked to name a supportive adult in the building, every single student mentions Danielle. That speaks volumes about the relationships she builds and the care she shows each and every day.
