Initially established as Detachment 13, K-State's Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) unit was renumbered Detachment 270 in the late 1940s after the establishment of the US Air Force on 18 September 1947.

Rain didn’t stop us during LLAB 5!! 🌧️

Det 270 cadets traveled to Fort Riley to participate in Leadership Reaction Courses (LRCs). LRCs place teams in challenging scenarios that require cadets to communicate effectively, develop a plan, and work together to accomplish a given objective.

These exercises gave cadets the opportunity to develop both leadership and followership skills by practicing decision-making, communication, teamwork, and adaptability in a dynamic environment. Cadets experienced the importance of taking initiative as leaders while also learning how to effectively support and execute the direction of others 💪💥

During LLAB 4, cadets participated in Group Leadership Projects (GLPs), hands-on activities designed to challenge cadets to work together, communicate effectively, and apply leadership and followership skills in a team environment. These projects provide cadets with opportunities to build confidence and develop leadership abilities they can carry into future Air Force roles. 💪

Week 5 has kicked off!! Beginning with a team building PT and ending with a pose worth capturing, our Cadets are runway ready📸

LLAB 3 brought plenty of marching, leadership, and learning. Cadets practiced basic marching movements, guidon procedures and then took turns leading the way.

We sharpened our flight formation skills while building confidence in the fundamentals. 💪

We focused on honor guard drill, reveille and retreat procedures, flag folding 🇺🇸 and customs and courtesies briefs.

Last week, Det 270 gathered for a memorial PT in remembrance of September 11, 2001, and in honor of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives that day.

As we remember the lives lost, we also recognize the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, service members, and ordinary Americans who answered the call in the days and years that followed. We will remember. 🇺🇸

LLAB 1 marked the beginning of another semester at Det 270 ✅

Cadets participated in an information-focused LLAB covering important program information, safety briefs, and Drop Night 💥 The session provided cadets with a clearer understanding of expectations for the semester and the opportunities ahead.

Thank you to our cadre and cadets who helped make LLAB 1 a productive start to the semester.

We were thrilled to welcome 33 new cadets to Det 270 for New Cadet Orientation (NCO) on 22 August!! 🤩

Throughout the event, our incoming cadets learned more about the opportunities AFROTC has to offer, including scholarship opportunities, leadership development, career paths, and what it takes to succeed in the program.

We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to all of the parents and families who supported their cadets and helped make this event a success. We’re excited to welcome our newest members of the Det 270 family and can’t wait to see what they accomplish!
