The MCCOA is an organization that serves all senior citizens regardless of income or ability. “Seniors” of today are just as vibrant, mobile, engaged and seeking fellowship as their younger counterparts. In fact, the wealth of talent that Manistee County sees in the senior population is something that many find as a valuable resource. Seniors bring with them a lifetime of experiences that are invaluable to solving today's complex problems. Clearly, the contribution of the senior population in Manistee County alone deserves the continuing support of the entire community.

100 Women Who Care Manistee County to Meet October 20th

The next quarterly meeting of 100 Women Who Care Manistee County will take place Tuesday, October 20th at the Blue Fish Kitchen and Bar on River Street downtown Manistee. Networking begins at 5pm with the meeting promptly from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

"We look forward to seeing as many members as possible on Tuesday, and we welcome new members to join us," said co-founder Judy Crockett. "I get calls and emails between meetings from women interested in supporting the on-going efforts of our local organizations. Attending our meetings is a wonderful way to learn more about what they are doing and how you can help."

Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. "I encourage women to come to a meeting, see how it works, and decide if it is a good fit for them. If nothing else, it is a good opportunity to meet other women and socialize," said Crockett.

The meeting process is simple, efficient, and effective. Members submit the name of a local organization they would like to see supported. Three names are drawn randomly. Then each person drawn has five minutes to talk about why they want to support that organization, and five minutes for questions and answers. After the three presentations, the women vote. The one with the most votes receives that quarterly funding of $100 from each of the women in the group.

"We currently raise between $10,000 and $11,000 each quarter during our one-hour meeting," said Crockett. That's a huge amount of money for the agency to work with. The dollars are designated for the project presented at the meeting. Every dollar raised stays right here in Manistee County and is given directly to the organization with no administration fees."

The next meeting of 100WWC is Tuesday, October 20th at 5:00pm upstairs at the Blue Fish Kitchen and Bar. 100 Men Who Care meet the following night, Wednesday, October 21, at 5:30 pm at the same location. We explored Santorini some more yesterday. A visit to Akrotiri, a city destroyed by volcano about 1600 B.C. followed by a tour of a former tomato paste factory turned museum. Then we were rewarded with a beautiful view of The Caldera, followed by w**e tasting. In the evening we headed to Fira, the capital of Santorini, for dinner and a view of the night sky.
