On 7/11/26 DPS Trooper A. Molina conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle displaying a fictitious license plate while conducting an operation ensuring travel safety due to increased traffic related to FIFA. Trooper Molina became increasingly suspicious of the vehicle upon further investigation and contacted Trooper H. Villareal. Trooper Villareal had previously participated in our Auto Theft Recognition Class for certified officers. He recognized inconsistencies with the vehicle identifiers affixed to the vehicle and contacted Tri County Auto Theft. Officers who attend our training class receive contact information for all of our Investigators. Through collaborative efforts, the vehicle was determined to be a VIN switched vehicle. The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD High Country was reported stolen in October of 2025 and has an estimated NADA valued of $58,000. Thank you to Troopers Molina and Villareal for your continued partnership in combating vehicle crimes across the state.
